Introduction

Yeah-baby Canyon is a short drive from Brisbane, making for a great day trip. A straightforward canyon best done after heavy rains.

Water levels

The catchment for Yeah Baby canyon is <2 km². The BOM Mt Tamborine Fern Street rain gauge is only 1-2 kilometres away from the catchment area.

Anchors are generally set back from the edge and can usually be accessed relatively easily even in high flows. Refer to trip reports.

  • catchment and rain gauge location
  • .

    Approach

Park at the roundabout on Carey Parade. Walk further down the road to the large closed gate and the edge of Tamborine NP. Do not cross the fence into private property, but go bush through the scrub on the right, down to the creek. Follow the creek down for 100 meters to P1.

    Descent

    • P1 - TR 30m - X on rock. Abseil the immediate waterfall, and the next waterfall using this anchor. Or divide in two 8m abseils.
    • P2 - TR 8m - Sling with mallion around small tree.
    • P3 - TL 33m - Sling with mallion around large tree.
    • P4 - TR 33m - XX on rock. Can optionally abseil 30m to a very small ledge on TR and jump 3m into the 2-3m deep pool. Can also climb to the jump. There are several other excellent jump options.
    • Slide, downclimb & rockhop for 50m
    • P5 - TR 30m - XX on ground (low).
    • Preferably start your exit 50-100m further down, up one of several short tracks onto a ridge TR
    • Or downclimb & rockhop a further 400m to a slide (currently blocked by a log March 2025)
    • A 10m steep and bumpy slide into pool with an excellent flyoff at the end. Climb up to repeat
    • Preferably return back up the creek to the exit mentioned above

    Exit

Approx. 60-80m after P.5, steeply up onto the ridge to find a partially obvious cliff break going up to the right. Punch through the rainforest scrub and you'll see some established footpads. Follow the path until you reach the scree gully and follow it up to make it through the cliff line. A track has formed all the way to the road, without going on private property. Beware of loose rock.

    Red tape

Do not cross the private property fence on entry, instead go bush down right of the fence to immediately enter Tamborine National Park.

Do not exit down Guanaba Creek, this requires crossing the Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area which is not open to the public.
