Introduction[edit]
Biggest mandatory waterfall rappel in the Haast Pass region on public land and the highlight of this route is R13, a 55m rappel forcing you to cross the flow twice on rappel, with a white room at the top section, a massive 15m roostertail in the middle section, with a deep-water disconnect in a large hanging pool before the final 30m rappel.
Approach[edit]
Uniquely on the east side of the Haast River, with a west-facing slope, the approach if done in the morning is shaded and not as hot as those on the west side of the Haast, but the approach does require a bit of bush-bashing on most of the 300m gain. 2 hours should be sufficient.
Descent[edit]
Very slippery.
Exit[edit]
Easy. 10 minutes.
