The Chris Brennen beta says after climbing the steep rocky slope at the end and proceeding through some bushes to turn left and proceed south, however the trail to the left appears to branch off a few times into dead-ends or trails back into Newton Canyon. Turning right after crawling through the bushes instead leads to the Backbone Trail where you can proceed south.
