Introduction[edit]
Black Dahlia Canyon is a short but pleasant canyon next to The Big Pink. I say this canyon is slightly less interesting than Red Velvet but still worth a stop. If you are looking for an extra canyon after Blue and Red Velvet, The Black Dahlia is a great choice.
Approach[edit]
standard approach when going for the velvets but continue south and hike up one last hill to the top of the canyon.
Descent[edit]
This is a short canyon with 3 rappels up to 60 ft. The last rap is down climbable to the river. You will have a few areas to inflate rafts and float to your next desired location.
Exit[edit]
You have a choice to exit Big Horn canyon if your car is at the Big Horn trailhead, you have the option to climb up and out from Black Cat Canyon and hike back out or paddle to AZ hot springs and hike out to the trailhead.
Red tape[edit]
You must have a USCG approved floatation device and water craft to be on the colorado river. There are no other restrictions. do not place bolts in this or any canyon. There is plenty of anchorage building material, be prepared to replace webbing.

Background[edit]
We did not find any anchors when entering this canyon so we suspect this is a new canyon.
