Introduction[edit]

    • as of February 2021, this canyon is not recommended due to excessive trash being washed down from above*

This canyon is located about 10 minutes north of Guadalajara, and is one of the few canyons in Jalisco that one can do all year round (IE. it has water all year, and the flood risk is manageable in the rainy season).

Approach[edit]

Take the main highway north out of Guadalajara, and about 10 minutes after leaving the city behind park on the right side of the highway by the entrance to the Camachos Balneario. Leave a vehicle there, and return back up the highway and take the first right trun possible, just across from a small park, and drive up 1km, to a right turn, and follow that up until stopped by a gate across the road. Park a little back from there and then walk 2.5km along a farm road, til turning right and dropping down into the canyon. Follow the edge of the arroyo until coming to a small dam, where you enter the water.

Descent[edit]

Exit[edit]

immediately after R6, climb up on the left bank to the highway which is right there. Follow the edge of the highway back to the car (this is the most dangerous part of the trip!).

Background[edit]

The first descent of this canyon was on 30 Oct. 2009 by: Lucina Andrade, Luis Medina, and Carlos Leonardo Barragan Ochoa who rigged the first 4 cascades. The last two cascades were bolted by Jalisco Vertical in 2013, and bolts were added to R4 by ADN Extremo in 2014.
