Introduction[edit]

A not so rugged Page area canyon. Short canyon with a spectacular grotto rappel and incredible stemming.

CAUTION: Be aware that there are owls nesting near the end of the upper section and there is no way to pass without disturbing them. Recommend doing the original lower 3 rappels only.

Approach[edit]

Option A (1-3 rappels) Start at Wildcat Canyon lower parking area. Hike up past some interesting hoodoos. Can go up higher to add two rappels or make your way lower on slabby sandstone to last grotto rappel only.

Option B (5 rappels) Start at the top of the drainage just down the road from stud horse trailhead.

Descent[edit]

Option A: The uploaded KML track enters the canyon just prior to R3 (bypassing optional rappels).

R1: 60' off of large boulder. Optional.

R2: 40' off of cairn anchor. Optional.

R3: 65' off of dead man anchor in crack that opens into an amazing grotto. Free hanging. Use courtesy rigging to prevent rope grooves.

Stem and downclimb large chute to bottom.

Option B: From the parking area at the top of the drainage.

R1: 60' off of large boulder, just down from the parking area. Optional.

R2: ~50' off of cairn. Optional.

R3: 60' off of large boulder. Optional.

R4: 40' off of cairn anchor. Optional.

R5: 65' off of dead man anchor in crack that opens into an amazing grotto. Free hanging. Use courtesy rigging to prevent rope grooves.

Stem and downclimb down large chute to bottom.

Exit[edit]

Option A: Follow wash down a little ways. Exit up RDC to lightly used trail. Follow trail back to vehicle.

Option B: Follow the road toward Wildcat Tank Canyon and exit to the left up canyon of it’s drainage on the slab towards the hoodoos and stud horse trailhead.
