Introduction[edit]

Approach[edit]

Descent[edit]

Waypoints in the KML map contain detailed descriptions of all the rappels (courtesy of Bluugnome.com).

Note: Rappel #4 uses 205 feet of rope, or be very thrifty at the anchor and be prepared to come off rope before your feet touch the ground if you use a 200 foot rope.

1/2017 We added a new cairn anchor 80 feet down from the top of the final rappel (the 250) You can now run the canyon, very carefully, with a 200 - 210 rope.

2/2025 All potholes are now full of gravel and can be walked over. Also, my recommendation is to bring a 250’ or 300’ rope. You will have extra rope for any needed fireman belays as rockfall can be a problem. As said before, can be done with 200’-210’ but I’m glad we had the 300’ with us.

Trip reports and media[edit]

First Descent Trip on 11-3-12:

Monroy's: We descended this canyon on 2/13/16 along with Pit of Despair on the same day. Our entire team of 5 preferred this canyon slightly over P.O.D. It is an exceptional jaunt with very vertical rappels falling in quick succession from the drop-in. We added a rappel where blue gnome described a down climb making the trip 7 rappels instead of 6.
