Introduction[edit]
Concepcion is a wonderful canyon near Coroico, Bolivia, with some very nice narrow sections and high walls. It is not very technically difficult and would be a good choice to warm up with before doing some of the more advanced canyons in the area.
Approach[edit]
You can hire a minibus in Coroico to drive you to the start, and you can call again when finished to have them pick you up. Otherwise, leave a vehicle at the start of the hike. If you have a second vehicle, you can leave it at the end but know that it is in a remote location so has a possibility of being vandalized.
After obtaining permission from the villagers to cross their property and descend this canyon, from the parking spot find a small trail going up the hill just to the left of some buildings, located just as the main road curves to the right. You will pass some cypress trees and a small cemetery. Just past this will be a turn to the left. You will follow the trail along a water pipe, and pass through two gates made of logs which you must close after yourself. Contour along the mountainside along an easy path to the start of the canyon in a deep cleft in the mountain.
Descent[edit]
It is a beautiful canyon with very pretty and narrow sections.
Exit[edit]
Red tape[edit]
Permission required to descend. Please see Coroico region page for more information.

Background[edit]
First descended Sep 2018 by Francisco Ortega, Abel Barra, Betto Chavez, Cristian Villca Mendoza, Lucio Jorge Mendoza, and Eduardo Gomez Perez.
Coroico is the town at the end of the 'Death Road' mountain bike ride, and is quickly establishing itself as the adventure sports capital of Bolivia. The first international Bolivia canyon rendezvous was held here in Sep 2019, and there are enough canyons to spend 10 days or more. A recommended place to stay is Hotel Esmeralda, which has fantastic views from the mountainside of miles of valley for, and very very good flow of water in the showers.
