Comments: Hiked in from less busy, (much farther drive) east side - nice fall colors, wading less that knee deep at most - ankle deep mostly. Can stay out of the creek on use trails some of the time, but you must hike directly in the creek a lot and you are constantly crossing - neoprene socks can help. Parking at Turkey Creek trailhead cuts off 1.5 miles of road hiking one way, the only reason I can see for parking at the Aravaipa trailhead is if Turkey Creek lot is full. Many creek crossings on the drive, but not terribly deep. No passenger cars. Used one of 2 nice camp sites just east of Deer Creek as a base camp to hike further west on day trips. Very pleasant hiking.

Comment: Ascended old road along south boundary of the Aravaipa Wilderness. Camped one night at Parson's Grove (water carry required). Day 2: down into Turkey Canyon and camped at mouth of Deer/Hellhole Canyon. Day 3: out. A great loop route, allowing a one-way through-hike of the main canyon. Water ankle to calf-deep. No issues.

Comment: Backpacked Aravaipa as a 3-day loop from the west trailhead, ascending the old track along the southern boundary of the wilderness and dropping into Turkey Canyon. While a non-technical canyon, Aravaipa is super-scenic and teeming with wildlife. A ringtail came to visit us in camp one evening. Water levels were usually about ankle-deep with occasional knee-deep spots to contend with. There are often trails on one side or the other, but in some areas you'll be forced to hike in the creek. Recommend boots with neoprene socks. Long pants per bushwhacking. A really beautiful canyon. BLM permits required.
