Comments: We saw two juvenile chuckwalla lizards in a very shallow pool of water at the bottom of rappel #4.

Several of the rappels identified by Luke (Bluugnome.com) in beta from 2011 are now extremely short, easy downclimbs. We concluded that Hurricane Hilary (or other flood events) had deposited gravel.

We found a carabiner, water bottle, and part of a cut harness below R7. These were left from the recent helicopter rescue.

Comment: Our group had a great day out on this less traveled canyon. We shuttled from Gold Valley, which does require a high-clearance 4x4 to access, but saves the 4mi and 4k elevation gain you face when starting from the bottom.

Many of the rappels in this canyon can be downclimbed if that's your aim. One member of our group downclimbed R1 and R3. We all downclimbed R6 without really knowing it was a rappel. R8 and R9 don't exist anymore, most likely due to deposited material from consecutive years of flooding in 2023 and 2024.

The seep in the canyon is the standout reason to explore this drainage - we got to see 2 baby Chuckwalla in a small pool at the base of R4, which was incredible. Watch where you land, you never know what can be underfoot!
