Comments: We descended this canyon as a part of a multiday packraft trip on the river. Starting from BoyScout Beach it took us 1hr to travel up the BoyScout Canyon exit. From there we followed the BMD approach originally trying to find a way over to Wildside Canyon. Being faced with some sketchy ridges and challenging terrain we decided to descend this canyon instead.
This canyon has a few decent drops but as I mentioned in my previous report, it is fairly unremarkable and a 3 star canyon compared to others in the area. Can confirm largest drop is slightly less than 120’.
We got wet to waist deep. Water not cold but refreshing.

Comment: The technical section was okay for the area, with a couple of good rappels. However if you are a scrambler like us and enjoy climbing up dry falls, side-hilling, ledge traverse, tricky downclimbs, and class 4 exit-- then this canyon is a worthy adventure. All anchors, webbings, and fixed ropes were in good condition. A few of us got wet in the "unavoidable pothole" and stemming section after, but only ankle deep. Also, big thanks to whoever put more sandbags in Boy Scout hotsprings area.

Comment: A decent canyon for the area.
We did this route as a part of a 3 day trip paddling down the river from the dam camping and hitting canyons along the way. We started the day from the BoyScout Canyon Beach. From beach to drop in took us about 2 hours. The descent also took us about 2 hours. Webbing thoughout canyon is still okayish but probably wont last the summer. We encountered one unavoidable waist deep pool. Much of this route is wide and cliffy except a very short spot at the end where the spring is. Much of that area is a bit over grown. The calcite formations were neat. Final “rappel” into BoyScout could be ghosted off a tree but it was a low angle walk down and there is an easy walk off DCR. All in all a decent but unremarkable route. | |||||||
