CONDITIONSApproach: The approach up the south rim of Box Spring Canyon is easy to follow. Once the dirt is past and the rock is reached there are many cairns to follow; however, not all will lead the way you want. We didn't vet them as closely as we should have and got off on a variation of the shortcut approach before realizing it and making our way over to the standard approach. A minor issue but still something to pay attention to. The final slab up to the ridge/top out point, and then the slab down to the drainage are leg burners but manageable. Water Exposure: There is water in the potholes that is unavoidable. While wetsuits are not needed in hot weather, some of us had them and were happy to use them. Those that didn't did get chilled waiting for their turn to rappel. Anchors & Rappels: The first anchor is off of bolts and we replaced the webbing. The second anchor is a sling on the arch and we added some webbing. Depending on when the next group goes through them may want to remove the older webbing. Exit: Easy. We just followed the established trail back to the parking area. We didn't have time to detour to the petroglyphs, but having seen them before they are a worthwhile side trip. STATS
