Comments: For all the times I've driven I-70 and looked up at Silver Plume Falls (R2) in Brown Gulch, I'm glad to have finally hiked up and rappelled these two drops. The approach is ok with a decently defined climber trail to the bottom of R2, then requires some uphill hiking past interesting old mining buildings and finally crossing a moderate scree slope to gain the first rappel. Rappels are short and slippery in August with walking between.

However, while Brown Gulch / Silver Plume Falls doesn't offer a lot to write home about as a summer descent, it does provide close proximity to Denver. With the walking between the falls, this can be done without neoprene, wearing rain pants, rain jacket and wool socks. These rappels could be good for practice. If only the approach was shorter, one could run a couple laps and try the variety of bolted anchor stations.
