Comments: The rappels were nice, but the canyon is heavily overgrown. I would not recommend going down the canyon until a large amount of rain comes through. A couple of pot holes with surprisingly clear waist deep water. Arroyo completely dry. There are no Oakwilde campground remains (listed as closed online). Exit trail was marked with orange flags, and there were two hand lines on the exit route. These are likely from the construction group on the ridge above the exit trail?

Comment: This is a pretty little canyon that could be nice if it were cleared. As is, the canyon is constant bush-wacking and climbing over, through, under and around obstacles. There was clear water throughout the canyon and several rappels into knee to waist-deep water. The water was refreshing without wetsuits. Many of the rappels are optional, and we elected to downclimb many of them. We did our best to clear a path in the time we had, but we didn't get far. We started the approach from the road to the north of where the beta indicates because it seemed like a better spot. Almost as soon as we left the road, SAR was above us checking to make sure everything was ok. We could see 2 cars near mine with their light flashing at the shuttle parking spot. Then a guy appeared above us at the road and called down to make sure we were ok. He seemed unfamiliar with the canyon (we told him the name and that we were canyoneers) and seemingly reluctantly let us off on our way. What a way to start the day! The flagging and handlines are still on the exit route.
