Comments: Well that took a long time! After visiting Reflexiónes I walked into towards Rinconada to get water. A guy helped me out. I then walked all the way to the bottom of Esmeralda to cache gear, and along the paid hwy to Junco. Despite meeting someone on the way who knew the Junco manager (he gave my their number) the guards wouldn't let me through the first checkpoint. In the end I walked all the way back to Casa Blanca. I decided to try and access the canyon from the other side via El Paso del Caballero". I camped at the water near the ruins. The next day I headed up past Reflexiónes and it turned out the trail goes all the way to the drop in point for Esmeralda (and further to Junco). It makes no sense to me why they won't allow access from that side without a permit. Anyway, from there you follow the trail on the right side of the ck eventually dropping in to the ck. There are nice clear pools here I drank from. The canyon soon follows. I climbed the first pitch. The longest drop was shorter than reported. About 50m, so I didn't need my muel tape.
