Comment: Good day out, but cold. Great crew; moved fast to stay warm. No ice where the water was flowing, but ice next to flow especially at the start of the first two raps had to be navigated with care. Anchors in good condition. R3 - staying at DCL edge of flow kept rope away from DCR tree & sharp edges. No rope damage and rope pulled fine with no issues.

Comment: Maybe a little more water than a month ago. Cut-off trail is closed, looks to be a long term closure due to landslides. Fun, short outing despite the cold rainy day.

Comment: The approach trail to Starvation Ridge via the cutoff was closed because of a landslide. We proceeded beyond the cutoff trail to Hole in the Wall Falls, where we accessed Starvation Ridge Trail. The trailhead near Hole in the Wall Falls is labeled Mt. Defiance.
We entered the creek where the trail intersects Cabin Creek. The creek is overgrown and requiring creek bushwhacking. I'm happy to report there aren't many angry plants with stickers. The creek went smoothly, even though the water level appeared higher than what would be considered moderate flow. Rappel R0 - R2 went fine. During our R3 descent, we went DCL to avoid any potentially sharp rocks. We did not damage any ropes on this creek. Caution is advised for those on bottom belay due to the risk of rocks roughly the size of baseballs, they bounce surprisingly far out of the flow area. All rope pulls were easy.

Comment: Rather cold with a larger team in the wind tunnel above R3. Noticed a sharp rock about 10 inch below the block on R3 which was moss covered, easily avoidable when starting rap. Rope pull was smooth! Good quick raps for a cold day.

Comment: Back in Cabin after a few years. Flow surprisingly low. We improved the anchor on R3; there were no core shots, no rockfall, and the rope was relatively easy to pull from the bottom. Spotted a large sharp block DCR near the tree halfway down the pitch. Is this the culprit responsible for much previous rope damage? It's easy to avoid by staying left. Hopefully, the pull issue is now solved and Cabin can take its place among the great shortie canyons of the Columbia Gorge. A great destination for a cold winter's day when you need your rappel fix. :-)

Comment: We also had a stuck rope on R4. We ascended rope and reset rope. Even after resetting rope, we still had a hard time pulling rope.

Comment: Low flow and the upper drainage is an overgrown jungle (needs a good flood to blow out all the woody debris), but the last rappels are top notch into a really cool chasm. The last rappel is an excellent candidate for bolting as the current anchor is set about 20ft back which contributes to a very difficult pull from below. We ran this one in combination with Lower Lindsey.

Comment: Little pushy on 2nd tier of R3, but otherwise great conditions. Was able to use logs to set up an anchor for the second tier of R3. Beware rockfall at the bottom of R3. There may be sharp edges at the bottom of the chute.
