Comments: Day one we hiked to Bonita Creek, dropped camping gear and hiked up to descend the canyon and return to camp in about seven hours and 15 miles of hiking. We hiked out on the second day in about three hours. There may be better ways to reach the area where the canyons are - north of Midnight Canyon - this was my first visit to the area and I was a bit surprised by the well maintained roads far along on the hike. If they are not private roads it may be possible to get much closer to the Midnight Canyon area making visiting the slots north of there much more worth while - though the low quality of this one doesn't give me much hope that the others will be much better.

Most of the trail is in good shape, well marked and easy to follow, but was a bit overgrown with thorny brush. Hiking down Johnny Creek is fairly tedious with the worst size cobbles and small boulders that move underfoot and threaten to twist ankles. Don't underestimate how tiring all the creek and canyon hiking can be in this area.
