Comment: Amazing day in Cassidy Canyon. With the scenic drive closed you now have to hike up the Grand wash which is not a bad hike. It does add an hour and a half or two to the total time. Cassidy anchors were in great condition as per usual with no special challenges. We CEMed or Fiddled most drops to minimize further rope grooving.

Comment: With the Scenic Drive reconstruction project the Cassidy Arch Trailhead is closed and not accessible. So, we did an alternate approach/exit via the Grand Wash starting and ending at the HWY 24 Trailhead. This added 4-ish miles of hiking but also significantly reduced the crowds. We started from the trailhead at 8am (usually late for Cassidy on a Saturday) and no one was at the top of the arch when we arrived there. Later in the day we could hear a group behind us but we likely were the only two canyoneering groups attempting this very popular route on a summer Saturday--a very rare occurrence.
Conditions: No water in the canyon and all the anchors are solidly built and all webbing present is in good shape and shouldn't need to be replaced for a bit. Midway down there is a side drainage the enters the Cassidy Arch drainage. This is noticed by a little alcove. We peered in and found a Sterling Tech rope hanging there with the excess and tail tied up. The rope was dirty and covered with spider webs. Looks as if someone dropped to Cassidy from the side drainage and stuck a rope and never came back for it. No telling how long it has been there. Dumb mistake: Our group was comprised of 4 people, with three being competent climbers who were new to canyoneering and new to using Critrs. To ensure against contingencies I rigged the all drops releasable including the first drop which is about 140 feet. Given the 140ft drop and the 200ft and 150ft rope lengths, to rig releasable it was necessary to put the double fisherman knot joining two ropes in front of the quick link and the releasable Totem block. This makes the system releasable for the full 140 foot drop, but not retrievable, so re-rigging is required for the last person. Unfortunately I made did not remember to do that and paid the price by having to ascend back up to the top. A Micro Traxion and a VT prusik are ok ascenders, but not the most efficient. Add this to a mostly free-hanging ascent and let's just say I won't soon make this dumb mistake. I'm including this here for laughs and so others can benefit from my error. I will say having the tools and skills to ascend are important; but, practice ascending and judgment to know when ascending in canyon is safe or dangerous are vital as well.

Comment: Beautiful (if chilly) Thanksgiving Day in Cassidy Arch. It was an unexpectedly busy day; we were stuck behind two other less experienced groups, which really drove our time up. No water, completely bolted, half-day length - great stuff for a beginner canyon.

Comment: Good times! We enjoyed a Cassidy lap on a lovely morning, followed by PIE!! A couple pieces of webbing could go for a replacement soon.

Comment: Great cold day out in Cassidy. Snow and ice around the park but none impacting the canyon run. 3/4 hangers on the first two raps are spinners, same for roughly 1 hanger every other rap the rest of the way.

Comment: A quick and lovely romp as always. Dry. All anchors in good condition (except a mobile bolt on R1, reported to the park).

Comment: Beautiful canyon. Nice hike up, nice rappels, overall a great romp and lots of fun.
Used a CEM on almost all the drops to help limit rope grooves (which are at this point quite endemic). Combined with Wife 3 and 5. Permits were self issue at the visitor center (you didn't even have to go inside).

Comment: Stellar canyon, sure it is not super tight and a little short, but it packs a wallop of a fun punch. That first rap is epic, the second one is why I put the canyon at a 4 for difficulty, the rap is pretty exposed with some penalty points for messing up. Got to have the head for it. The rest went super smooth and quick.
Found a helmet in canyon and have posted to some forums. If you can describe it, you can have it back!

Comment: This route is a must do if in the area. we accidentally brought very little water but were fine once we made it into the canyon. We parked at the exit pin and walked up to the trailhead which worked out nicely. All pulls were very clean, this was a well maintained canyon.

Comment: Done with 7 raps. The first 2 raps are the longest at ~115' each, so I've changed the beta to reflect that. All raps are bolted, easy pulls. Beautiful and easy canyon.
