Comments: Rented a plane at Santa Monica and flew to Catalina; there was a nasty downdraft just before the runway threshold. Bike ride over to the drop-in took 1:45. There was minimal brush on the ridge, a manageable amount down the slope, and very little in the canyon itself. Deer appear to have blazed a decent trail along the canyon floor. Most of the canyon was quite charming with intermittent pools and some loud frogs. I downclimbed R1-R3 and rappelled R4 to get to the beach after a descent of 1:30. Retracing the route, I climbed around R4 to the upcanyon right side, pulled the rope up, climbed R3, and got to the road 45 minutes after the beach. It took about an hour to walk back to the bike and then almost 2 more to return to the airport as night was falling. Unfortunately it was too dark to fly out that night so I hung out with the airport manager for a bit and then slept in the plane until morning.
