Comments: A Great multi sport adventure. We started from Taylor cabin th and rode e-bikes to the drop off location then hiked into the canyon. The rapps were good, and anchors were minimal maybe 2 in place. 6 rappels total, but we used a retrievable anchors on 4. There were alot of bear tracks and scat throughout. We pioneered a new exit up a ridgeline and to the bikes which saved us significant time. From the start of the sneak we were back to our bikes in just under 2 hours. 30 min ride back to the car. Total time for the approach, canyon, and exit was 7 hours car to car.

Prepare for scrub oak and locusts bush on the exit. 4th class exit (no rope needed), with moderate exposure.

New kml and updates coming soon.

Comment: This canyon is a rugged adventure which offers solitude and beauty in exchange for the effort. The bike shuttle greatly cut down on time needed to access the canyon and allowed more time for exploration. The canyon itself, while not slotted, offers some unique and engaging rappels and downclimbs. The two bigger raps are framed by the looming expanse of sycamore in the background. (Future parties may want to extend the anchor for the final rappel, friction made for a tough pull even with a fiddle stick.) The exit, while tough, is an engaging challenge. Be sure to bring bushwhacking layers. You will scrambling through geological time. Between bushwhack saddles, you will encounter 4th class scrambles as you reach each major geological layer, even passing fossils of oceans long drained. An adventure for the dedicated traveler through raw and awe inspiring wilderness.

Comment: Time is for the First Descent of this canyon. We ran out of water at Taylor cabin and hiked out dehydrated and delirious. We placed anchors only on the R1 and the Big rappel. The 4 other drops we used retrievable anchors.

Top of the canyon is clean, the bottom gets quite brushy as you navigate to the creek (dry wash).

Special challenges encountered was one deep keeper pothole. We used a Fiddle stick off a tree located directly above the chute. The keeper was deep and filled with water and would be very challenging to escape if you continued into it. We were able to bypass the pothole using a ledge system on the LDC side to gain the lip.

Ideal conditions for this route are during the fall and spring (cooler months) or after heavy rains.
