Comments: Massive pools! I was surprised how cool this area is. You don't see this much water anywhere else in Central or Southern AZ. We hung out by the fern-filled grotto after R4 for a while. Really sad about the prospect of new mining at oak flat.
Road can be a bit tricky and hike starts out fine down hackberry creek but is VERY slow going once in the main canyon.
I jumped R1 after checking depth. R2 seems maybe jumpable but has more of a rock shelf to clear, so not for me. There's a handline installed at R1 so we only had to leave and ascend a rope at R2.

Comment: Drive: No prob in a stock 4x4 Tacoma
Hike: relentlessly both pretty (nice little pools and waterfalls all the way) and tedious (ever see enough catclaw and poison ivy to make cheatgrass patches a relief?) Nice to have decent water to purify all the way. The good stuff: Beautiful! Fun mix of waterfall raps and short swims. On both the longer drops, we couldn’t see the landing zones. So I sent people without third hands in case they had floating disconnects. Both landings are on rocky ground. Next time I’d rig beginners with VTs. Fixed rope at R1 still in decent shape.

Comment: FR 315 has been excavated and is now much less aggressive. Approach was slow-going and extremely brushy. Light flow. Fixed handline present at first anchor. Left our rope at second anchor to ascend out after completing the lower rappels.
