Comments: Flow was very high so we hiked in and looked at R3-R6. We ran R5 and R6. R5 and R6 were both fine going DCL. The majority of the flow was in the middle. I wish we would have run R3 but ended up not climbing up there after hiking into the bottom of R3 to check the flow.

Comment: Rappels were pretty fun, the approach... not so much. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze on this one, but we had a good time. Mostly natural anchors - the ones that weren't natty were in good condition. Water was cold.

Comment: Mazamas class run from R2. The water was higher than I expected it to be is why we skipped R1. Fun day in Dog for students!

Comment: Dog was lots of fun. We did a pre class run to make sure everything was good to go for students. I left my figure 8 and a carabiner sitting on a log after stuffing a rope. Bummer!

Comment: Fun day in the creek with water level rising during the afternoon rain. Wet scramble and full creek made for a slick and somewhat more challenging ascent. One member of the group who had run Dog in lower flow commented that a few of the rap stations were more complicated to use in the higher flow we experienced today. We used a hand line or a belay in a couple of places. Despite the relatively high flow, most raps were reasonably comfortable. Padding the lip on R7 highly recommended.

Comment: Beautiful little canyon! Our team of three hiked up to the meditation pool along the creek from the parking lot, scrambled around the bluff on creek left to gain access to R6 and then descended the canyon. Total trip time for us was five hours, the hike up to the meditation pool (minus the scramble to get to the top of R6) took us an hour and fifteen minutes. We started the hike in with our strongest climber scaling the lowers falls just right of the falls and then setting a top rope belay for our weaker climber. Once past there the climbs and scrambles were not difficult.

The creek is absolutely beautiful in the fall. Flow was moderate to low but plenty fun for our skill level. We did notice the beta on all the lower rappels was for vertical height and not rope length and I have updated that fact now to the beta page. Needed to extend my 100 foot rope a couple times to have enough length for pull. We used retrievable anchors to ghost R7, R8, and R9. Replaced the cheap hardware store 5mm quick link at the top of R12 with a proper 8mm climbing rated quick link.

Comment: Great first outing with new canyoneers on first creek! Had a great time and no trouble areas. We started below Meditation Pool as flow above was a bit committing and swift (but doable for intermediate & above experience). Flows were great and not concerning, plenty of water but not pushy. We added an anchor that could likely be ghosted in general around R9.

Comment: The flow was great! We dropped in above R6 and enjoyed the chute. It was ripping and a bit pushy, and lots of fun! Someone put a rope up DCR into the Meditation Pool that we were unable to traverse to and cut. The rope is extremely long and could be a potential hazard in the hydraulic. The Pool was chilly, but the rest of the creek never felt cold. We were grateful for our rabbit runner on R7 and R9, and appreciated the new bolts on R13. Lots of fun going right in the flow. We encountered a number of people up and down the creek escaping the heat. Overall, a great day on a really fun creek!

Comment: Hiked up from the bottom and dropped in above R6. Chute is ripping and spicy currently. Played around in the hydraulic for a bit before moving on. Added new bolts to R6a, R11 (one can fully run the flow now), and R13 (finale). Beta has been updated. R12 could use bolts in the future, but needs more consideration on placement.

Comment: Started at meditation pool as R6 was ripping. MP was painfully cold, but the rest of the creek was a perfect temperature. Flow was moderate high and falls were pushy, but easily navigable. Reviewed notes at Red Bluff with a burger and beverage.

Comment: Practice session. Dropped in above R6 and descended from there. The chute still has a lot of power and was pushy. Meditation Pool a good place to practice swiftwater techniques. Water, surprisingly, not that cold. Adjourned to Backwoods for pizza & festive beverages.

Comment: 2 person team. Parked at the Dog Creek lot and hiked up to the swirl pool. Pretty easy. Rapped into the Dog Slot just above the slot. The sun was out, the water was nice. All of the anchors were removed so we mostly used ghosting techniques.

Comment: Did not run, but ventured up Dog Creek a short distance before thrashing up to gain Dog Mountain's east ridge. Noted a lot of new trash in the creek, likely added by day hikers this summer. We packed out some (including a ton of flagging tape and a lone open-toed sandal). If you see any more, please help pack it out and keep the creek clean. Thanks!

Comment: Got off route a couple times on the bottom up. They weren't kidding with the abundance of poison oak. Bring a machete... R6 is great and a lower curtain falls is nice, too. Otherwise little of interest, at least at lower flows. Probably not worth the effort or risk of significant poison oak.

Comment: Bottom-up. Risked the poison oak jungle and dropped in above the Meditation Pool. Flow was just about perfect for a fun descent. Some throw rope practice in the hydraulic. Please do not leave anchors in the lower canyon as it sees a lot of non-canyoner visitors. Retrievables are the way to go here. If it gets stuck, just climb back up and go fix it.
