Comments: This was the second canyon that we did today and boy was it HOT out... We drove our 4x4 expedition as far as we felt comfortable on the sandy road and it almost got stuck. We took one pack, water, and a 10' piece of webbing. No ropes needed. The approach is boring, the sand is hard to hike in, and the full sun exposure makes it feel much longer than it really is. The narrows make the approach in worth it. There are some fun yet challenging down climbs and stemming areas. Make sure to stay in canyon and don't be tempted to climb up and out to avoid certain downclimbs. If you exit early, you won't be able to get back in. Be cautious when stemming, the walls can be slick, its all sand. One downclimb has some old rope in place to assist if needed. We exited the canyon and went straight to the lake to cool off. We hitch hiked a ride back on some jet skis. They took us up to the beach where are vehicle was parked. Total round trip time was 3 hours. I would do this canyon again but not on a hot summer afternoon....

Comment: Fun route. We did it with no ropes, just a small day pack and 30' of webbing to lower it. Pair of spotted owls towards the end, as well a waist deep unavoidable pool.
      • approach: approached from the beach and worked our way around the water at the head of state line canyon.

We will be back and Kegn is going first.
