Comments: Eaton is still holding on to class C status (see pics). The hike at noon was rather hot, which took some extra time (special challenges). The water temp is warm enough (64F) not to need a wetsuit. I wore one which was nice through the Grotto, but too hot for most of the rest of the canyon. Most all the pools have maintained their depth, even after the flash flood from Hurricane Hillary's rainfall. A few are deeper and a few shallower.

Comment: Eaton is still going and has enough water to make for many fun slides, jumps and rappels. We wore our wetsuits on a drizzly day and they were needed as we got cold if we stood around too long. The anchors are in good shape and the penultimate could still be slid. The rappels are very slimy so care must be taken to have a fireman belay for less experienced canyoneers. The belay was needed many times for our beginners. Be safe!

Comment: Ran Eaton in the slight rain today. The water level has been dropping since the tropical storm. Hope the little bit of rain today extends the season.

Water level is still high enough for lots of jumps and slides. The water is clear and not too cold. However, we appreciated our wetsuits as it was a drizzly overcast day. Rappel anchors look good. Someone added a new rappel anchor to a tree right after the second slide. Instead of downclimbing the bolder, you can set up a rappel if you want. Also, the rabbit hole DCL (I don't know what rappel number this was but it has a big log jammed in it) is open again for you to downclimb through. This is different from the DCR rabbit hole which has a purple fixed line now.

All of us slid the Penultimate as it's still deep enough to do so. Please check for debris before committing.

As always, the last rappel had a sizeable crowd. You can show them how it's done!

Comment: I hike up canyon, and climbed around the last rappel on the Razorback. Flow was down to "moderate high" after the rain from Hillary (see pics).

Comment: Fun day in Eaton today. Passed a few groups. Water is at that high B/ low C range, pretty mellow (see pics). Finally got around to sliding the penultimate, touched bottom but not too hard. Willie: Water temp 62F; I was glad to have neoprene shorts and a top. Someone took the webbing off the tree for R1! Plenty of frogs are out and about. We came across a rattle snake that we startled. I pruned back some of the poison oak on Telephone trail.

Comment: We hiked up too late in the morning and baked in the Sun (special challenges). The water felt good at 65F; still glad to have neoprene shorts and a top for the front-end waterpark. Anchors are all good. Lots of frogs are out. Water was very clear.

Comment: It was too hot to hike up the normal approach in the mid afternoon, so I went up canyon past the penultimate to unclog rabbit hole #3 (special challenges). It was a bit tricky climbing up the short drop by the rabbit hole with all the water pouring down, but with the use of a log, it was secure and easy enough. After the rabbit hole was unclogged all the water went into it, so the climb is now dry.

Comment: Got an early start up to Henneger at 0730. Hike up was still in the shade for the most part. Bumped into a rattlesnake just before heading down telephone. Red webbing was in great shape. No rap ring on webbing of rap one so I used a macrame self retrieval. Water flow was relaxing. Falls were flowing. Great trip down canyon. Lots of poison oak and bugs (to be expected). Final rap was quite a show. (Note: Do not toss ropes down the final falls. There were ALOT of folks in the pool below.) To my surprise, when I reached the pool below, a cheer broke out with clapping and celebration. (I guess I was the source of free entertainment. LOL ) Great day in the canyon. I wore a thin wetsuit but didnt need it. Water was perfect. Enjoy

Comment: Another weekend in Eaton. Someone went through in the past week and replace a lot of the anchors with red webbing and new quicklinks. Water flow at the top was a bit chilly as always. Green algae is slowly taking over the pools and canyon which makes things a bit more slippery. Took DCR on the big boulder/second rabbit hole and used the attached purple rope. Made for a easier time than rappelling from the top. Penultimate was still slideable (please check before committing). Last waterfall rappel had a big audience as everyone is hiking to the Eaton waterfall these days. Be careful as that last rappel is as slippery as ever. Our trip time included a ~30 min break in the middle to practice ascending techniques on the large horizontal tree stuck high up on the canyon walls.

Comment: Second Saturday in a row in Eaton. Another one coming next Sat with the goal of cleaning up the overgrown Telephone Trail. Water flow still great. Lots of slides & jumps. Poison Oak starting to grow more, so keep your eyes open (and trim if you can).

Comment: Can't get enough of Eaton. Water flow is good and is bordering between moderate and moderate-high. Most pools are slidable/jumpable and with the summer sun, not too cold although the second slide pool is a bit chilly. Went with a big group today with a few beginners. Contingency block on all rappels just in case. Everyone slid the penultimate where I promptly had my phone ripped off my bag and it sank. Went back for it later that day with goggles (don't forget the goggles and secure all loose articles). BTW, the penultimate pool has fish in it! Beginners struggled the most with the 2nd rabbit hole (large bolder) - they were not use to the slight pendulum effect. Perhaps a better option is to go through the rabbit hole DCR. Last waterfall, we went DCL which is the more sporty route and puts you through the waterfall. It's very slippery so be sure to have a belay for everyone. All in all, a great day in Eaton where everyone had a good time and got back safe.

Comment: Water was very cold at the beginning/top of the canyon. Made me want to bring a thicker wetsuit than my 3mm. Canyon was beautiful with all the water. I short rappelled the penultimate to do a depth check as some day hikers swimming in the pool at the time mentioned it was shallow. The pool was deep enough for sliding (please check before you slide). Special challenges came when we threw down the rope to slide and the rope detached from it's floating bag and sank. Spent some time looking for the rope but couldn't find it without goggles (new item in my wet canyon packing list). Took the razorback trail out. Have recovered the rope on a different date. Thanks Eddy!

Comment: With some caynoneers new to class C, we had some learning experiences (special challenges) that stretch out the trip time to 8.5 hours. Water flow is holding at Moderate-High (see pics) and the water is crystal clear. The frogs are out in full force now that the weather is warmer.

Comment: Eaton canyon is very fun right now. The flow isn't too high to be super challenging which leads to a lot of fun slides, rappels and jumps. Be sure to check all the pools before committing to a jump as some that look jumpable were not as deep. All the anchors are in good shape. All of us, even the beginners, slide the penultimate (aka 2nd waterfall). Saw lots of frogs and salamanders. Water at the top is a bit chilly. The sun was out today which made the hike in the middle of the canyon a bit hot.
