Comments: Since I dropped into Eaton from West Muir Ravine, my 1.5 hours is from West Muir to the Pinecrest Gate. The rain over the past few days was soaked up by the dry earth and did not increase Eaton's flow (see pics). The water is still clear and cold (around 55F). There are still a few frogs around, but with the cold nights and mild days the frogs are moving to winter mode.

Comment: Since I got a late start hiking (1:15 PM), I decided to take the "short cut" down Telephone (Esme) instead of the normal full run, especially since we had trimmed it and did anchor work recently. This proved to be a good thing as I just made it down Eaton's final waterfall before I needed a headlamp. The hike up was not raining, but right at the approach high point, it started up. I put on my wetsuit there, as I was occasionally getting rain all the rest of my run, making all the rocks slippery (Special challenges). The rain did not increase the flow (see pics).

Comment: We spent an extra 2.5 hours doing work in Telephone canyon (Esme), thus the overall 7.7 hours. The Eaton run itself (from the drop-in to the cars) was 3 hours. Waterflow is still holding on to the bottom of class C (see pics). The Penultimate is still deep enough (barely) to slide. Water was totally clear, but getting colder at 55F. The fallen leaves add to the slippery rocks, making for poor footing in some areas.

Comment: Eaton is still a nice and easy class C run (see pics). And it was blessed with and overabundance of frogs on this trip. The water temp was 55F, so a good full body wetsuit was needed to stay warm.

Comment: I had a lengthy side project trimming Telephone (Esme) (special challenges) on the drop-in to Eaton. From Telephone (Esme) junction of Eaton back to the car was 2.4 hours. The water temp is still warm enough to not need a wetsuit, but the front-end waterpark would be a bit chilly without one. After the Grotto, a wetsuit is overkill, even for the swim in the Penultimate pool with water temp of 66F. The water flow has been holding in there (see pics).

Comment: Eaton is still going and has enough water to make for many fun slides, jumps and rappels. We wore our wetsuits on a drizzly day and they were needed as we got cold if we stood around too long. The anchors are in good shape and the penultimate could still be slid. The rappels are very slimy so care must be taken to have a fireman belay for less experienced canyoneers. The belay was needed many times for our beginners. Be safe!

Comment: Busy day in Eaton! There was a group well in front of us and 2 groups behind. Water flow is still holding onto class C status (see pics). Water temp is 62F, but with a cooler day, a thin wetsuit was comfy and not hot even through the mid section. Pool depths are holding and some even getting deeper. The Penultimate and the 20 foot slide before the Grotto rappel are deep enough. All the anchor webbing is fresh at this point.

Comment: Eaton is still holding on to class C status (see pics). The hike at noon was rather hot, which took some extra time (special challenges). The water temp is warm enough (64F) not to need a wetsuit. I wore one which was nice through the Grotto, but too hot for most of the rest of the canyon. Most all the pools have maintained their depth, even after the flash flood from Hurricane Hillary's rainfall. A few are deeper and a few shallower.

Comment: Ran Eaton in the slight rain today. The water level has been dropping since the tropical storm. Hope the little bit of rain today extends the season.

Water level is still high enough for lots of jumps and slides. The water is clear and not too cold. However, we appreciated our wetsuits as it was a drizzly overcast day. Rappel anchors look good. Someone added a new rappel anchor to a tree right after the second slide. Instead of downclimbing the bolder, you can set up a rappel if you want. Also, the rabbit hole DCL (I don't know what rappel number this was but it has a big log jammed in it) is open again for you to downclimb through. This is different from the DCR rabbit hole which has a purple fixed line now.

All of us slid the Penultimate as it's still deep enough to do so. Please check for debris before committing.

As always, the last rappel had a sizeable crowd. You can show them how it's done!

Comment: I hike up canyon, and climbed around the last rappel on the Razorback. Flow was down to "moderate high" after the rain from Hillary (see pics).

Comment: Fun day in Eaton today. Passed a few groups. Water is at that high B/ low C range, pretty mellow (see pics). Finally got around to sliding the penultimate, touched bottom but not too hard. Willie: Water temp 62F; I was glad to have neoprene shorts and a top. Someone took the webbing off the tree for R1! Plenty of frogs are out and about. We came across a rattle snake that we startled. I pruned back some of the poison oak on Telephone trail.

Comment: We hiked up too late in the morning and baked in the Sun (special challenges). The water felt good at 65F; still glad to have neoprene shorts and a top for the front-end waterpark. Anchors are all good. Lots of frogs are out. Water was very clear.

Comment: It was too hot to hike up the normal approach in the mid afternoon, so I went up canyon past the penultimate to unclog rabbit hole #3 (special challenges). It was a bit tricky climbing up the short drop by the rabbit hole with all the water pouring down, but with the use of a log, it was secure and easy enough. After the rabbit hole was unclogged all the water went into it, so the climb is now dry.

Comment: Got an early start up to Henneger at 0730. Hike up was still in the shade for the most part. Bumped into a rattlesnake just before heading down telephone. Red webbing was in great shape. No rap ring on webbing of rap one so I used a macrame self retrieval. Water flow was relaxing. Falls were flowing. Great trip down canyon. Lots of poison oak and bugs (to be expected). Final rap was quite a show. (Note: Do not toss ropes down the final falls. There were ALOT of folks in the pool below.) To my surprise, when I reached the pool below, a cheer broke out with clapping and celebration. (I guess I was the source of free entertainment. LOL ) Great day in the canyon. I wore a thin wetsuit but didnt need it. Water was perfect. Enjoy
