Comment: This canyon is CLOSED…. However, if one were to do this canyon, the only sensible way to approach/exit now would be by parking at Stave Spring and hiking East Rim trail. Obviously much much longer than the original (now closed) Weeping Spring Trail. One would also have to fix a 265’ rope at a midway point of the canyon, from the peninsula above so they could ascend out because the final rappel has been closed for far longer than the actual canyon has been closed (And is very visible from the road). However, Ive heard rumors that there are still multiple anchors intact here… If one was to continue past this hypothetical fixed rope, every rappel afterwards would have to be fixed and re-ascended, as was typical when the canyon was open. I would also assume the water to be fairly cold and that there would be lots of deep swimmers. If one was to do this canyon, it would probably take a group somewhere around 11hrs with the long approach/ exit and the multiple raps that would have to be ascended…

This is all hypothetical, of course.

Comment: Time reported includes middle echo (approach from bottom). Very cold in a 3/4wetsuit with 7mm neo socks. Springdale reported a high of low 70s F that day. The only member of our party who was not cold worn a 7mm wetsuit.

There was a keeper pothole towards the beginning of the canyon. Easily escaped with a partner assist. At least one rappel has a difficult pull due to rock surface friction so keep a lookout to not get twists. There is a deep pothole with a swim that is filled with some of the most disgusting green slime I've seen.

One rappel has an anchor thru a rabbit hole where there is a sewn runner around a pinch point. We cannot figure out how it was made. It was magic.

I lost my phone on the shuttle, so that delayed our start a bit. We did the technical climb out ending in the dark. Not super fun. You will need a good climber for that exit as there are a few moves with difficult holds.
