Comments: End of Rope for the end of the year! A great day out with some amazing folks. Straightforward route which could also be called "Little Tree" since they account for the majority of the anchors. All webbing was looking good. We threaded the webbing on the 2nd to last rap around and under the large flake below the anchor tree which made the pull much easier. Used a fiddle on that and the final rap which both worked well.
The route lived up to it's name as our pull cord seems to have shrunk over the years of use, so a short 25' ascent of the rope was required to go snag the end of the pull cord and extend it. Fun times!
Special consideration is, as noted in the description, the bolted belay station. You're standing the whole time on sloping sandstone, and 2 folks can easily fit, but definitely talk through how you want to handle your ropes before starting the 90' rap above it.

Comment: Report is for the Memorial run. 20 people broke into 2 groups after doing the approach for end of rope. One group did hangmans gallows and the other did end of tope. These neighboring routes were good to combo and we all felt close but not too close. Routes went pretty smoothe although one rope got stuck on the hangmans gallows route and has been retrieved. The retrieval issue was caused by a cem knot binding at the quicklink.

Comment: Brandon Lavender Memorial Run! Smooth run through, able to rig 2 ropes at all rap stations. Webbing on flake needing replacement soon. Pull on 2nd to last rap somewhat difficult, recommend rigging CEM or fiddle here. As always, a fun full featured route!

Comment: One of my favorites in Sedona! Approach up rock fall gully was no problem for careful feet. I added a new anchor option to dropping into the subway. There is a nice large rock flake that provides a better quality free hang rap. As always the final sequence is lovely, use a fiddle stick and have no issues! :)

Comment: Had a fun trip running End of the Rope Canyon despite encountering some issues with new ropes that led to having to ascend 100ft freehand on rap 2 and then dealing with a really time consuming pull on the very last rap. What was supposed to be a short run did end up taking a little extra time but despite the troubles it didn’t effect our enjoyment of the canyon. The approach was fun, enjoyed the rock scrambling, and the spicy 4th class move got my heart racing a little. The rebelay was a nice treat that had a stellar view. Of note, one of the hangars moves but the bolt is solid. And the final rap… was absolutely beautiful. Best part is, you don’t have to start the canyon off Boynton Canyon Trail. The approach and exit are easy and straightforward. Def one of my new favorites in Sedona.

Comment: Measured big rappel at approx 214 feet. We really enjoyed the adventurous approach.
Skipped r3 and downclimbed in at the head of the slot. Fiddle stick on last rappel which we completed with a 210 rope extended 3 feet from bolts. Special challenges are for the rebelay, and advanced rigging.

Comment: This is a my new favorite in the area! We loved the rap sequence at the end. Re-belays are so much fun! (If you enjoy rigging and advanced rope work as much as I do). I had my 200' (Closer to 210') with a short 50' section to work with. I extended the rope at the anchor by about 3 to 4 feet. This allowed the team to not have to deal with passing a knot while free hanging. I rigged a contingency for the first man down but didn't need to lower as there was the perfect amount of rope. Swapped everything over to the fiddle stick before heading down last.
All anchors were good and pulls were smooth. Blocked every anchor except for the final rap. We opted to downclimb a neat slot nearby instead of going down Rap 3. It was worth it. Took our time and enjoyed great company! We will definitely be back to do this route again.

Comment: A top quality shorter canyon route with a fun approach, lots to see, and super fun raps! We took our time, checked out ruin sites and enjoyed every bit of it! Last sequence is super fun! Very worthwhile route and one of my favorites in the area!

Comment: Fun approach! Some bushwhacking in the beginning following a neat vegetation tunnel up the left side of the canyon to the rockfall then cutting over to the bypass route which is wide open and has awesome views. One of my favorite Sedona approaches! The slotted subway section is a real treat! We stopped here to heat up some backpacking meals and chill.
All the raps are really great but the last 2 rappels are fantastic!! R4 goes directly to R5 where you need to clip in to the bolts for R5 immediately as there is no flat ground to stand on, only a small sloping shelf, with room for only 2 people! We used every bit of my 220' of rope to get down R5. There is a shelf near the bottom that, if you were set to rappel towards, you could probably get away with less than 220' and have an annoying bushy downclimb but it's certainly not ideal. Once on rope, there is no steering yourself towards that ledge if you didn't set up for it as it is total freehang. Again, I seriously wouldn't recommend doing with any less than 220'. The ruins are some of the largest spread that I've seen in Sedona so far, really neat!

Comment: In my opinion the rockfall is recent in geologic time only. Non the less the rocks are fairly unstable. We were careful, and no rocks were knocked loose, but be very careful in this gully. We did not encounter any 4th class. I measured R5 at 205ft. Fun canyon with remarkable ruins.

Comment: R3 Downclimbed steep slab into the head of the slot.
R5 Can probably be done with a 200'. We extended our 200' by 10 ft and there was 10 feet on the ground. Fiddle sticked everything but the first rappel. Fun and worthwhile. Special challenges are for re-belay.

Comment: Approach up the rockslide (and 4th class section) can be avoided by turning south and hiking around the mesa. After reaching the saddle and soaking in the beauty of Hartwell Canyon, we continued toward the ruin site and turned left scrambling up the steep slab towards the top of the ridge. I enjoyed the drop into the slotted section and subsequent alcove, though the highlight of this canyon is of course the final 220' free rappel to the desert floor and well-preserved ruin site. Practice leave no trace and do not disturb these special places.

Comment: Very fun canyon. Most of our group was not comfortable with the exposure hiking up the slick rock from the Indian ruins and elected to hike around the cliff at a lower level to access the top. We needed a min. Of 220' of rope to safely reach the bottom at rap5. The double chain anchor at rap 5 is great. the ledge isn't really a ledge but very angled and exposed. Recommend for experienced canyoneers only.
