Comments: Approach took us 1.5hr. Sandtraps were our primary anchors, as well as a few pack drags. On two drops we used a toggle, one of which was off a piece of rebar near the end of the canyon (The namesake "Excalibur" as I believe it be) which made for a fairly long (and beautiful) multistage rappel of what I am sure was more than 100ft. We had 2x 200ft ropes and were glad to have deployed them there as there were no other easy spots to sandtrap on that sequence. (sorry I didnt get a measurement). We encountered very little water in canyon, nothing more than thigh deep. There were a few keepers requiring potshots to defeat, most could be climbed out without or buddy boosted.
Each of us carried a sand trap and 3 potshots for efficiency. Etriers would be helpful to carry to help subsequent team members escape potholes after initial escape. We did not need a water anchor or wetsuits.
This canyon was really pretty and a fun mellow challenge after descending the much more challenging Unicorn Canyon day before, making this our "rest day."
Total time 6.5hrs to the beach where we rigged another sandtrap for a bonus rappel off the cliff into our boat
