Comments: The waterfall rappels are very serene and beautiful. However, it is buggy as heck in summer. We got bit a lot. Small flies kept kamikaze into my eyeballs. Also ran into a pissed off rattlesnake. Super overgrown, lots of bushwhacking while trying to avoid poison oaks. Can't always rely on what you step on, layers of branch breaks, lots breaks, ground breaks. To be fair though... we went few days after hurricane Hillary came through so don't know if that made the canyon messier than it normally is. The exit creek walk was a slog and the final climb out was pretty painful. Again to be fair... we did bag Sunset Peak right before doing the canyon so it may feel gnarlier than it should be. I put on the Youtube video, it should give a pretty good idea of the canyon.

Comment: GRR was closed so we parked at the gate in Baldy Village and did round trip from there, which added 2.5mi easy road walking to the trip. From drop in to exit our time was 8 hrs going at a friendly pace. Canyon was cute and fun and dry, probably would be neater in spring with water flow. Minimal bushwhacking on approach and in canyon, but it was more choked up in the exit creek walk. We cleared a pretty decent path in most spots. The creek walk is/takes longer than you think and takes most of the work. The final exit uphill scree slog sucks but not as much as you think. It would suck more if you aren’t in shape or not used to suffering uphill futilely in loose earth.

If you are used to well traveled canyons, you will not like this one because there is no use trails anywhere. If you have a bad attitude, or can’t draw pleasure from being in nature while working a bit for it, sit this one out. If you are seasoned to canyons that have few descents, it’s pleasant and more easy going than you might have prepared for.

Comment: this was an amazing canyon. should be a 4 star for sure. awesome repels, and everything was super green. the hike back out is a little steep, but the moss covered repels make up for it. falling leaf would also be a consideration for the summer months being that it is shaded all the way through the canyon, and 50-60% of the exit canyon is shaded as well.
