Approach wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If you like tallish rappels and downclimbing then you might like this canyon. The brush near the bottom of the canyon is super dense so we went up on the DCR ridge and dropped back in a little above the last rappel. We downclimbed the last rappel DCL which is not advisable since it goes through a lot of poison oak.
Willie: There are awesome views on the hike up, along the approach ridge and even in the canyon at various locations (see pic). There a many short downclimbs, some are solid, some are sketchy (holds break off easily); thus we likely should have rappelled some of them. The brush after leaving the approach trail is minor, dropping into the canyon OK, and a few spots in the the canyon that are momentary annoying, but otherwise clear of brush. There is only one spot with a little PO to avoid, until you get to R5 in the beta. Below R5 the canyon kelp is crazy thick hiding all the dead fall underneath it, making progress painfully slow. Also there is copious amounts of Poison Oak mixed into the mess, and on the sides where we climbed up into the escape gully. It would be a Herculean effort to clear the plants and deadfall in the main canyon down from this point to the last rappel/downclimb into the main Fox Creek. I think the 3 star rating reflects that most of the canyon is good, but that short section between R5 and the drop in Fox Creek is horrible. I also updated the anchors on the main page.
