Comments: We combined Fiddle Me This with Middle Echo. Although not one of your impressive canyon with grand view like Echo, we find FMT as a pleasant canyon with its own wild charm. We used CEM throughout except for a couple of rappels with more horizontal distance and curvatures, which we used Smooth Operator instead. The whole canyon was pretty dry except for this one knee deep pool at the end of 2nd technical section. We (2 of us) took our time hiking back to car as one of our team members bagged Observation Point on the way back.

Comment: Overall a great day in Fiddle Me This + Middle Echo. Time includes car to car of both canyons but excludes the hour+ we spent hanging out at the exit enjoying the shade and the view.
Fiddle is great fun with some good problem solving (including using a found bone as a Fiddlestick). My suggestion is that the first person at a built anchor (cairn, dead man, etc) should destroy it so the rest of the group can enjoy the problems. It seems like a long approach + exit for just Middle Echo so a huge kudos to Tom and crew for finding an interesting upper section to add. I'm not sure why you would run Fiddle without Middle Echo as Echo is a great time and the pay to play at that point is quite low. Multiple pools in the lower sections of Fiddle Me This but the party was fine without wetsuits. We suited up somewhere in the transition between Fiddle and Upper Echo. The group was in 4/3 fullsuits and temperatures were good. We found slung boulders with awkward starts in Upper Echo before hitting the bolts of Lower.

Comment: We did this route combined with Middle Echo.
Started from Stav Spring TH at 1pm (hoping to beat the heat on the hike out) approach is quick and technical section took us about 3 hours. It is very dry and hot. Little bits of shade interspaced with lots of sun. The big drop in is nice but all on wall. Quite a long hot wash walk in the middle. The keeper is easily climbed out of by a strong climber without needing escape gear. We encountered Tom Jones’ stuck fiddle stick at R3. This rappel is better suited for a CEM knot due the geometry. Most of the rappels were quite annoying and of low quality. Alot of downclimbs through out that are also just not that great honestly. Ive done this canyon twice now and both times it was underwhelming. Luckily Middle Echo is anything but! Next time I will skip this one and head straight for Middle Echo. Hike out from Middle Echo was 2hrs. So probably 1.5hr from FMT if I was guessing. Hung out at the end of Middle Echo for 30mins. Starting late indeed helped us dodge the horrid heat on the way out. Total time for both canyons 8hrs. | |||||||

Comment: This could be a very fun and quick canyon. Not so quick for us due to this canyons desire to eat our ropes and anchors. I've never stuck a sandtrap, but it happened here. We also built a backpack anchor where the second pack wedged on the pull...special challenges indeed. Having a crew confident in their climbing will also save you time on the downclimbs that start in the second half of the canyon. The canyon was holding some water when we went through, and there was a spot where a water anchor would have been perfect... except that we didn't have one. Water was chest-deep at the final rappel. The highlight is the first set of drops/narrows and the rappel towards the end through the narrow slot. Some of our teammates want to go around the narrow slot, but I would challenge you to go right through it because it's a very nice space.

Comment: Fiddle Me This turned out to be a really nice Zion canyon. It has a decent amount of walking, but compensates with three highly enjoyable narrows sequences. I counted 11 rappels but we downclimbed a number of drops at least a couple of our rappels could have been downclimbed with some degree of risk. The canyon was mostly dry, but had an unavoidable waist-deep (and cold!) pool at the last rappel before the exit.

Comment: Good canyon! We stayed completely dry. There was no webbing in canyon. We used a sand trap twice, but the second occasion would have been a reasonable partner capture, on retrospect.
