Comment: Great canyon. The fossils are amazing! Watch for awesome fossils on the access ridge as well as in the canyon proper. The cairn marking the descent from the ridge to the gully is easy to find. Replaced webbing on 2 anchors, others in good shape. The canyon was holding a little bit of water after recent rains. I got wet up to my knees in a small hanging pothole.

Comment: Fun carved water courses, tons of fossil snails, shallow potholes and great carved drops. R4 was unexpectedly long, previously longest rappel was listed as 140' but there was no anchor evidence in the shallow pothole to make it such. Thus it was 190' for us. Ridgeline, gulley and traverse on approach were mellow.

Comment: Fantastic canyon to hike and do some fun rock hounding. Please don't take any fossils from the approach ridges or the canyon itself. Take pictures. The first 4 1/2 miles of the approach is along the slightly graded uphill wash. Then you have a steep hike up the hillside ridge between 6 mile (on the right) and Fossil SnailI (on the left). The first and last 4+ miles are very easy walking, but you may feel it by the time you hike out. All together the canyons length is tiring. Most of the fossils are at the highest parts of the approach and canyon.
