Comments: We enjoyed the downclimb to r1. Best rappel sequence in Sedona but it must be earned with a long approach. We took a lot of breaks and the approach took us just under 4 hours. Super fun route. Winter is the time for this one!

Comment: Beautiful canyon. Replaced the webbing on the last anchor. The scenery is delightful. Time is c2c, leisurely pace with lots of laughing and a little teaching.

Comment: Great canyon, brushy approach but after talking with John Hewitt and Jim Clarkin, this approach could probably be more comfortable. In any case, avoid following the kml religiously and stick to an approach on the southern side.

Canyon itself was great, R6 may need replacing soon. Worth the effort, a really great shot and an exit along the beautiful trail carved into Fay Canyon.

P.S. let's keep it positive! the shitty comments about "the reason you are able to experience this canyon and have beta for it" is a little bravado and ego oriented, I'm thankful for the beta but let's be appreciative and respectful, not determined to add to our canyon resume. Not a single one of us was the first to experience this place, and we won't be the last.

Comment: Great canyon, short but beautiful technical section! 2hrs to the summit at a leisurely pace. Decided to run over and rappel/ascend the first drop on Goldie Drops on our way over. This took 2 hours, not included in reported time.

Comment: Amazing views from the top of Bear Mountain and along the descent! Fun rappels and scrambling on the descent. The ascent up Bear is steep and in the sun. It would be nice if there was a cairned path in the bushwhacking from the top of Bear to the first rappel. This would help with lessening the impact to the vegetation.

Would recommend doing the R0 and R1.5 rappels. We down climbed them but the rock is slanted at an angle and a slip or fall would be quite serious. All anchors are in good condition. We backed up rappel 5 but 1-2 rappels are still on a single loop of webbing and would be good to back up. R6 was longer than 125’.

Comment: Awesome canyon! The bushwack is challenging but not terrible. We were happy to find the R0 bush with webbing. Fun day exploring a new canyon.

Comment: Took our time and took a few long breaks. Watch for rock edges. 3rd to last rappel is setup on tree around line of gravity for rappel and could cause rope damage.

Comment: Weather conditions were great! The bushwhack to the first rappel was overgrown and spikey (full length pants recommend). We saw another canyoneering group of 3, two adults and one kid. Cool view of ruins on the last rappel.

We noticed that our rappel devices have been getting extra hot after rappels in Sedona. When one member of the group went to go relieve himself too soon after a rappel, he came back to offer the advice "Don't burn your critter on your critr" 🔥

Comment: Very cool canyon which just keeps getting better with each rappel. It has one of the easiest exits in all of Sedona... but it also has a really tough approach to even things out. We replaced the webbing at R6 but otherwise all stations looked okay. 8hr time also included ample time to forage for Pinyon Pine nuts and cactus fruits which were insanely good this time of year. We realized it's very easy to see R1 from the Fay Canyon trailhead, which gives you an idea of the approach you're in for.

Comment: Gorgeous route with so much to see and fantastic raps!

Summited Bear Mtn in 1.5hrs. Once on the ridge and in the canyon we moved at a leisurely pace.

Very photogenic route, I enjoyed every bit of it. We didnt leave a shuttle so we hiked the road.

Comment: The mile or so from the “end of trail” sign on bear across the top of the mtn was all snow. Only deep in a few parts. We brought gaiters and extra socks & were glad we did. First rap/DC was icy so we all rappelled it off the webbing on the bush. Canyon conditions were good. It’s pretty chilly back here still when the sun isn’t out. Gloves recommended for the approach. Puffy &/or windbreaker recommended (at minimum on a cloudy day) for the rest if running it in Feb! Obviously incredible views throughout the canyon. Didn’t need to fiddle any pulls. Though, you could for sure to save a pretty big arm workout! Especially on the first rap. Personally I think there are better canyons with less aggressive approaches but some people like that shyt so 🤷🏽‍♀️

Comment: Great conditions in the canyon and amazing trip. First canyon that we'd all done in Sedona and it did not disappoint. The approach from the end of the normal trail to the top of the canyon was a lot of bush walking and walking through thick snow. The downclimb to R1 had snow/ice on it so we ended up using the anchor at the top to rappel down that. There was another group of three that got to the top at the same time as us. Was an excellent time!
