Comment: Looked for anchoring alternatives on rappel 3; best option would be to just use releasable systems to keep rope abrasion to a minimum. The alternate anchor location for R3 LDC creates quite a bit of drag and isn't ideal.

Comment: Low amount of water, just a trickle, running through the canyon. All pools avoidable and it was a delightful day out. Incredibly easy starts to each rappel, although R3 anchor is setback a bit and requires just a little bit of scrambling to access for inspection.

Comment: As others have mentioned, this canyon is a huge bang for your buck! The anchors were all clean and easy to find, fiddlestick setup is easy and clear for both descent and retrieval. Approach was easy to follow. Some standing water from recent rains existed but no flow.

Comment: Still a slight trickle of water in the canyon. Pools are avoidable. We were able to keep everything including the rope dry.
Anchors looked good for now. R3 Location should be modified as grooves are starting. Took 2 beand newbies and they crushed it. Good times

Comment: Fifth time leading this canyon. Approach has always been great, the increasing length of the rappels builds confidence for beginners, and the final rappel is a great exercise in courage. (1) 40m and (1) 70m rope worked for us, all single line rappels. Slight amount of water running through the canyon. Exit is very easy.

Anchors looked good. Fiddle stick on last rappel. Just over 2 hours car to car.

Comment: Wicked awesome flow throughout the canyon. Snow and ice made the approach a bit spicy. Anchors looked good. 5 stars with flow!

Comment: Half Dilly is an awesome canyon! Great views on the way up and down. Overall definitely worth it. IMPORTANT NOTE: When you get to the second rap, the webbing is high up in a tree. It is a two-stage rap, so obviously be aware of that. But when you go to do the second stage, you will need to move the rope about 15 feet to the left (when looking up-canyon) before you can safely do the second stage. Water was flowing but barely, some ice still out there but did not affect the route or safety. Stay safe & have fun!

Comment: We took our 11 year old nephew out to do Half Dilly as a Christmas present, along with giving him his own rappel device! He did a phenomenal job and we couldn't be more proud. This route is great and all anchors / webbing are in good shape. I would have to agree that this route gives you the most bang for your buck in Sedona. Will definitely do it again. It took us approximately 4 hours car to car. We had to walk the road to get back to the main trail head which added some time. We also took our time teaching our nephew along the way.

Comment: Great half day route. No problem from the small frozen pools. Excellent for the effort required.

Comment: Great route with some snow melt!
Light trickle of thaw throughout the canyon which really makes the route come alive. 2.5 hours car to car.

Comment: Super fantastic beautiful route with huge bang for your buck! Once off the Bear Mtn trail, the approach gets super pretty with a lovely tour of some hidden pour outs and alcoves that wouldnt normally be seen! This route truly features the best parts of Dillinger following a super clean slick rock drainage, with colorful sculpted walls and smooth layered rock underfoot! All the raps are fun and all are over hung. The last rap is amazing! A perfect evening canyon to watch the sunset above the last rap! All webbing looked good. We stayed in the exit drainage right up to Fay Trail, this was direct and not overly brushy with fun down climbs throughout. We didnt have a shuttle vehicle so we hiked the road back to Bear Mtn TH. Short, very sweet, and impressive! |
