Comment: The trip went well, other than one of us stabbing ourselves with a yucca on the way up. As previously mentioned, the first bolt has been cut. A tree RDC has been set up with webbing and is in good shape.

All other bolted anchors were solid. Final tree rappel has no webbing, as I assume everyone ghosts it, as we did. I would also note that there is a decent drop (about 8') between R1 and R2. Our newbie rappelled down with a meat anchor, and I got a partner assist. Not difficult, but worth mentioning.

Comment: First three raps are bolted and bolted very well I might add. Small trickles of water made it extra magical today. Really fun today.

Comment: Pretty ideal intro to canyoneering trip. The gradual height buildup, beautiful final rap, and easy hikes in and out had everyone happy. The bolts are great. Time includes a full safety talk at the top of R1, which is also a great place for people to rig up and get a feel for their gear (including rigging from anchor and test-loading in a safe direction). We used the closer to center R4 anchor.

R1-R3 start with overhangs, handled fine by everyone with either the “let your legs fold like a pocketknife” or the left hip ooze approach. I had the descenders of a few long-haired canyoneers extended at first, but the extensions added awkwardness to the overhangs, and they were happier after deleting the extenders.

Comment: Parked at Faye Canyon and soloed up a 5.6 climb to gain the social trail up top. Someone removed the anchors on all but the last rap. Kinda makes sense because all the raps are good for ghosting. Was kinda enjoyable not seeing webbing in the canyon. Fun day out and enjoyed the improvised approach.

Comment: Solo run late afternoon! Beautiful little route lots of juice for the squeeze! Last rap always really nice! B lined it up from Fay Canyon taking the knife edge ridge. This approach took me 45min, shaves some time and saves a shuttle or road walk. New bolts and chains are solid, nicely done! On R3 stay RDC of little tree poking out of cliff to avoid cactus below. On final rappel, I like ghosting off tree center in watercourse, slightly better rap on my opinion.

Comment: Really great route! This is my second time through and it was as good as I remembered. Props to the folks who came out and set these bomber bolts. There was a trickle at most at some of the rappels, but it snowed the entire time and made for a beautiful evening run. 1 hr 45 mins car to car.

Comment: R3 lands in a cactus if you go too far LDC. Set the rope RDC and closer to the watercourse. Always a fun little banger. Bolted anchors looked good. No extra tat was nice, looks clean!

Comment: An excellent day tidying up this beautiful drainage with some excellent new friends.

For future groups, consider extending some kindness, and maybe some water, to the mangled pine at R1, since us canyoners are the ones who mangled it.

Comment: The R1 canyon right anchor placement has been causing damage to a small pine by the lip as well as a large agave. Anchor was adjusted to its original placement off a pine on canyon left. Removed worn, sun-baked webbing from around a large boulder at R2, high above the watercourse on canyon left, and used the established anchor down in the watercourse. Other anchor material was still fairly fresh.

Comment: Easy cruise through this beautiful canyon. All anchors were in good shape but the poor tree at R1 is getting demolished by the anchor webbing since the bolt was removed. Planning to move the anchor to LDC for R1 on the next run.

Comment: Thanksgiving. “5k”. All anchors were there today. 1” black milspec , most of which is single strand tied at each end with single QL. Worked great but inspect each time as there is abrasion at each of the first 3. (Certainly would benefit from a well placed glue in on 1-3 if permitted). GPX and Gaia were pretty spot on. Major thanks to those before who opened that approach. Great hike in!

Comment: All webbing and anchors have been cleared out. Come prepared to place your own anchors for all 4 raps. A little disappointing to see, but our crew still had an excellent time. We just used a Smooth Operator on all the normal anchor points for raps 2-4. Rap 1 the bolt has been removed, but there's a tree RDC that can be used.

Comment: Like Scattcatt, also disappointed to see someone had cleared out all the anchors in the lower half of Dillenger Canyon. We did replace them all, so they are brand new as of today. I guess my take away from this is have enough webbing to replace every anchor ever in the canyon you are in (even canyons that see heavy use), or have some sort of back up plan for when you run out of webbing. We did full dilly today and replaced 5 anchors. We still had a great day, and it's a beautiful canyon with good pay to play ratio.
