Comments: Long route in sounded awful, so we pioneered a shortcut route in from the road on the north side of the canyon. Climbed down a ways, then did a dirty rappel into the creek. Slopes in the old clearcut are piles of loose choss. Heater Creek had enough water to be fun and some interesting geology. The rappels are rapidfire; the first and last are particularly enjoyable. (Beware foot entrapment hazard DCL at the bottom of R1.) All anchors are good to go. The final rappel exits into the lake where it was an amphibian fiesta. Never seen so many salamanders in one place before. Presumably enjoying the cooler water which was pouring into the lake. Enjoyable (and warm!) quarter-mile swim down the lake until we located a good place to scramble back up to the road. Encountered several boaters who were baffled to see folks swim by in wetsuits. Altogether, a fun outing!

Comment: Fun trip. Took us a while. Note that our water flow conditions where after a fairly dry spring.
