Comment: There is only one spot that has water. This is the very last 5 feet of the canyon before it opens to the exit. The water is avoidable but if you walk in it, it is only shin-deep.

The final anchor is off a deadman. We didn't dig it up to fully inspect it (yeah, I know) but we backed it up and it didn't even move. I did undo a knot that someone had put in the webbing to shorten the it. Removing this knot extended the webbing and made the pull clean.

Hog 4 is short, but was not as interesting as the other Hogs in my opinion. Hog 4 is less constricted and therefore there is less stemming than the other Hogs. That being said, we found some of the downclimbs a bit spicier than the beta suggested. Perhaps it was just because it was the third canyon of the day and fatigue was setting in. With competent leadership setting up other anchors, or meat anchoring will work for the beginners--we had two novices with us and they were fine in Hog 4.

Comment: Sunday, September 17, 2023. Early morning start with perfect weather, partly cloudy and a slight breeze. The early morning light was perfect for photos. We rapped two of the downclimbs including the top entrance one making for four rappels total with 85 feet being the longest rap in the canyon. We rebuilt 3 of the four anchors. We suspected Barb E. Doll had been in the canyon earlier. There was bright pink webbing on the first anchor. It is now Black webbing, Sorry Ken! All of the downclimbs are easy and the rappels have great starts. The heart shaped pothole had partially dried black mud in it and was easy to step over. The canyon intersects with Boss Hawg, aka Hog I and just below that intersection is a long, deep and dark crack. It looks intimidating but is an easy elevator down climb and fun. Most of us used our shoulders for some friction as we slithered down this crack. Water was present in just one section in the twisting downclimb at the end of the canyon. We parked at the top at the normal trailhead and took the slab exit out of the canyon. Our best climber tackled the slab's short 20 foot, 5.7 move with ease and meat anchored the rest of us up that short slab. After the slab climb there is the buttress sandstone hike to the Rim. Pretty easy to follow the rim back to the trailhead parking. The road had a couple of rough sandy sections, but it was not a problem for our 4x4 HC vehicles.
