Comments: Started around 7am: I wouldn't start later for hiking uphill out of direct sunlight and to complete the canyon in daylight. We lapped three of the good slides a few times each. Recommend a running start to slide around the fallen tree 3/4 of way thru the canyon.

Comment: Ok, so this is an ok canyon for a rather extreme amount of effort. 7mi approach, then a 1000' descent down steep, loose, and/or bushwhacking terrain, 4mi of creeking, and then 400' up more loose and overgrown terrain. Hardly worth it for a couple of slides and 10+ ok rappels.
On a positive note- we saw 2 bear cubs, 2 snakes, a skink, and a salamander. And the sequoias (cut stumps, living trees, and old logs) were very impressive. As for beta: We started at 7:30 and still had almost entirely shade on the approach (not to mention relatively cool at that altitude), so not sure what the last comment was saying about that. We did come out in the dark though. Unless you find an alternative anchor or can DC an easy V crack I recommend 120' of rope. Creeking isn't too unpleasant but goes on for forever. On the other hand, the canyon never really gets that good other than the slide in the main picture.
