Comment: Very beautiful canyon. We rigged the final drop of the middle section on canyon right, rappelling into the levada tunnel to meet a friend, then re-rigging from the levada to continue down the waterfall into Hortela inferior. The middle section was the shortest of the three, taking us about 2h. Hortela integral took us just over 8h car-to-car.

Comment: Wow!! This was our favorite canyon of our trip to Madeira! Hortela 1 is nice, but Hortela 2 is a spectacular waterfall wonderland! We hired Peter Silva, a guide for Epic Madeira, to come with us and show us some of their efficiency techniques, which was incredible. We had such a great time and learned a lot. This section of canyon - some of us have said it might be our all-time favorite, ever. With each waterfall you descend, more waterfalls are pouring in around you. The deep carved grottos covered in moss are gorgeous, and the spill-over from the over-flowing levadas creates an other-worldly aquatic experience. We can’t wait to do it again!
