Comments: Took my time going to echo mountain and hitting Las Flores after.
The canyon is pretty overgrown but navigable. I don't think many people visit as it's two quick rappels at the beginning and a lot of walking, scrambling, downclimbing till the last rappel. The bugs are out in force as you're the only tasty treat they've seen in a while. They are so annoying and I would recommend a bug net unless you want to constantly be swatting them away.
The first two anchors are good w/ black webbing and quicklinks. These two anchors are DCL. The last rappel anchor (DCR - green questionable webbing) is missing a quicklink as the anchor is reachable by more people and they get stolen often. I ghosted off a tree DCL and had some fun with the low waterfall. Exited via the trail DCR right before the second dam.

Comment: 4.5 hrs car to car from parking via lake. Canyon itself isn’t spectacular, but the mines were all great. We explored 3 major mines. Anchors were in good shape and ran through 2 rappels (Downclimbed a third). 8am start was a little toasty but weather should be cooling down to make it more manageable. Water levels in the mines were up to thigh deep but with it being hot it was very welcomed.

Comment: All 3 rappels have webbing w/ rapide. 1st 2 (black webbing - DCL) looks pretty new. Last one (dark green - DCR) is very slightly frayed. Some trickle of water flowing in sections of the canyon. More hiking and down scrambling than rappelling with this one. Mine section has a lot of graffiti. Your shoes will get wet if you go in - it's pretty extensive. Overall, not a bad canyon for a quick run.

Comment: Trip time reflects only canyon descent, as this was part of a larger hike involving Alpine and Rubio Upper earlier in the day. Canyon was fairly unremarkable other than having a black bear lurking in a cave facing downcanyon shortly after R2 (special challenges). You can make out its face and body if you zoom in to the attached picture. The bear started to growl and moved slightly upon seeing me, so I went back up slightly and found another way down the canyon to give the bear a wide berth.

Comment: (night canyon run). First rappel was on a small dead branch but moved to a more solid branch of the oak tree. The first 2 rappels seem to be the only real technical part of the canyon. We didn't run into the 3rd rappel but it was at night and we were following the social trails through the lower portion of the canyon. The mine in the center of the canyon (banner picture) is pretty amazing! You will be up to your knees in water at one point but only for a short period. It goes back pretty far and is surprisingly warm.
