Comments: We had a great day in LeBar! I wanted to leave a trip report since I didn’t see any from later in the season — LeBar appears to run well into September and is quite lovely this time of year. Flow was friendly and the creek still had current to shepherd us through the long pools. We really enjoyed floating through the pools and taking in the scenery. By taking our time, we saw a lot of wildlife, including frogs, fish, a newt and CRAWDADS! It was so cool! We also had a curious dipper follow us down the canyon. All anchors are in good condition and the trap pool is a non-issue at this flow. 7.5 hours car-to-car using the standard approach.

Comment: Beautiful creek. Water didn't feel particularly cold on a hot day. Monster log jams. Cool jumps. The pool below the last rap requires a couple of strokes of strong swimming, or jumping out to clear the eddy. Overall, a great day, and nothing further to add from previous reports this year.

Comment: A great day in Lebar, we were happy to be in there on this very hot day. The canyon saw some major flooding this season with some new logjam debris to navigate. The grotto below R1 has a new gravel bar that was not there prior. The last rappel still has a single 12mm Triplex bolt, which is sufficient for now. One of the empty holes around that bolt will fit a 55mm Triplex 12mm sleeve bolt if anyone has one (now discontinued unfortunately). The eddy beneath the final pool required strong swimming ability. We had a throw rope ready in case someone got stuck (see attached photo)

Comment: A cruiser river walk/float with annoying log jams which ends with 2 short but spectacular rappels in the flow we has today. Leader must do a flat jump to clear those boils and eddies. My partner got stuck in DCL eddy on last rap. Rescued with throw rope. Good times were had.

Comment: A well spent holiday afternoon. Water was moderate, cold and canyon was a stunning gem. Found someone had placed a bolt on the rock knob DCL right above the first rappel. Also the unlinked bolts for the final rappel seem to have been removed or torn out and only a single bolt is there (you can see the holes left from previous bolts) Had to cut a few feet off a rope on the first rappel when the flow dragged the end under rocks at the bottom while pulling the rope, but had brought plenty of rope to finish the canyon thankfully.

Comment: A great day out in this always beautiful creek. Our friends ran the canyon the day prior (7/2/23) and found that the log anchor on R1 had been washed away. They were prepared with a bolting kit and installed a single bolt DCL. Added a new R2 rap to the beta from a log jam after the Grotto rappel (it can be downclimbed but is inconvenient). Floods have taken out one of the bolts on the final rappel, leaving just a single. This bolt should be backed up again at some point, or potentially replaced with a V-thread as this section seems to see major flood events and anchors will continue to be damaged long term. If placing a bolt, please consider placing a removable bolt, such as a FIXE Triplex, so the holes can be re-used later if the bolts are damaged.

Comment: This canyon has some unique features that make it special. If you're looking for a canyon on the Olympic Peninsula, this is a good one to consider. Waterflow was a good level for beginners. All in all a great day out. Jake posted some pertinent details on anchors on his report.

Comment: Dropped in at second drop-in point on the morning of July 4. Moderate flow and clear of debris until R1.

R1 has a significant logjam (image attached, as seen from above R1). The original tat off the down log is no longer visible and the log seems to have shifted from the historical picture (Water guage image in beta is below R1).

We felt that a rappel was possible off a natural anchor. The rappel would keep one out of flow in the upper section but the we didn't think it was possible to avoid the flow in the lower section. Be prepared to build your own anchor(s).

We opted to not go further due the moderate flow, uncertainty of the rest of the water course and the skill/size of our team. Navigable for a intermediate team. We navigated back up the creek ~100 yard and escaped back up the hill slope to the parking lot start.

Comment: We parked at the berm and followed the trail to the 2nd creek crossing. Lots of floating for then next mile. I almost think you can walk in from the car parking spot and save 40 minutes of creek walking and floating. This canyon has some of the best floating sections, but after 6 hrs we were ready to be done. Very, very pretty, but pack your lunch ( we didn't and got hungry). Massive log jams with some slippery downclimbs. Good beta. All pools should be checked. Most are only 6 ft deep, and have hidden rocks.

Comment: Great day! 80 degrees outside made floating leisurely and wonderful. Flow is slightly pushy in a few places but generally friendly. We dropped in a bit lower than the main drop-in - on the hiking trail, we dropped down the 2nd tributary creek that the trail crosses. It was a very easy, non-brushy creek, and allows you to skip what I think are an annoying 30 minutes of slippery creek walking. Props to Jake & Logan for finding this new drop-in! (added to the beta)

Comment: Dropped in a the upper entrance this time. A trail has been cleared all the way there. On arrival, don't go down the steep dirt slope, but instead take trail to your left down through the trees. Flow was great today, but spicy in the narrow sections. Replaced missing anchor at R1. One short drop somewhere below was kicking off a horizontal recirculation which took some effort to pass through. Hangers on R5 are both loose and spin, but the bolts seem sound. Lovely to drift in the long cool corridors of LeBar when it's 100 degrees F back in town. A great day out!

Comment: Ran the full LeBar, tho' we might have dropped in early. Followed the old overgrown road grade to the first stream / slide, then thrashed down a steep slope through classic Olympic forest to the creek. Reasonably nice platform just above the creek which allows you to jumpstart the day by literally jumping in. Great creek, great water conditions. Exited to the bridge, startling a number of campers in the area.

Comment: A fantastic 4th of July descent. Lurking on the old Canyoneering Northwest website, this canyon looked like it had some nice scenery. Did not disappoint. We explored both the upper and lower sections, which were not documented on the old website. While certainly low on the technical side, the canyon was quite beautiful and was well worth the trip. A great beginner canyon by midsummer.
