Comments: We used a car shuttle to start from the upper trailhead. Anchors in decent shape where present. There are a few spots holding water ankle to waist deep. It is possible to avoid all the water with much effort to stem high but most will choose to just walk through the water. We had a time crunch so we just went through the water. It is cold but if you keep moving you'll be fine.

We started with a group of 4 but ran the canyon with 3 people. At the top of the drop-in rappel, our brand new beginner wasn't feeling comfortable and decided not to continue onward and instead headed back to the upper trailhead and drove the vehicle back to the lower trailhead. It takes courage to try something new and risky, but it also takes courage to say you're not ready. I've learned over the years that newbies are capable of doing hard things, but if they are not feeling up to it it is best to not pee pressure them into it.

Comment: Fun canyon, but not the top for the lep forks. Only need to do 2 raps if you’re inclined, despite the webbing - entry and final 2 stage.

Comment: Fantastic! Did it during a heatwave, so we moved slowly and took frequent breaks. Highly recommend as a first canyon.

Comment: Shuttled using the top parking lot. Avoidable water, 2/6 of our group got their feet wet

Comment: Group of 9 with mixed abilities ranging from absolute beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Took about 4.5 hours to descend the canyon after shuttling to the top for the start. No water--not even any damp soil. All Anchors are in good condition.

Encountered a group of 21!!! This group was a youth group that showed up after us and walked the bypass to the second anchor. They did not jump in front of us however and even let a second group of 5 play through. This second group briefly caught up to us as we finished the last rap.

The final rap has some extraneous rigging. The short down climb is rigged for a rap or handline, though it isn't necessary. The actual anchor I added a courtesy anchor extension to get a better pull and because I thought we might just use it to assist beginners with the final down climb. All of this proved unnecessary. Plus I accidently made the courtesy anchor a bit too long. So use or improve it, but if doing this short rap and stepping away from the wall the pull should be ok without the courtesy.

Comment: Usual conditions. The canyon was dry except the pothole held water but it is avoidable by stemming. No water at the confluence of the Leprechaun forks making for a totally dry trip.

  • "Utah/Colorado canyoneers in the Hanksville region: Does anybody now of a 'Tyson' who went through Right Fork of Leprechaun recently Because he scratched his name all over the walls in about 12 different locations. It's relatively new grafitti, probably left within the last week or two. If you've got a suspect, pm me. I'll refer it on to the BLM." Southwestern Canyoneering

Comment: Another fun day in the Leprechauns! This fork was not as difficult as Main Fork but no less beautiful. We had the opportunity to practice some partner assist climbs absolutely had time to drop the West Fork afterwards.

Amazing
