Comments: Mis-Me is completely dry, wetsuits and deep pools were related to exit through Orderville. Time is East Mesa trailhead to Temple of Sinawava.
First part of canyon is very brushy and steep. It continues to be steep, with less brush and lots of loose rocks until the canyon levels out a bit. Lots of downclimbs. Found webbing we didn’t use at one of the downclimbs before the first rappel. First rappel was off a tree and had okay looking webbing on it. Second rappel we replaced the webbing on a small tree DCL, although the tree is rather small. There are numerous large rocks available for a potential dead man for anyone not trusting the tree.
In the ‘level’ part of the canyon there was a section I’d call the “tree depository” where many many downed trees of various sizes are strewn across the wash.
For the downclimbs we had one we meat anchored the first two and they partner assisted the last person. On another we rapped off a large rock without the need for webbing.
If you’re into big cool rappels, this is not the right canyon for you. If you like tons of downclimbing challenges this may be what you’re looking for. If you want access to the water park portion of Orderville without the long dry Orderville hike in or carrying the long ropes needed for an Englestead entry maybe this is the right canyon for you? If you like the part of Mystery before reaching the slotted narrows, maybe this is the canyon for you?
The entrance of the canyon is steep and delicate and probably couldn’t handle a lot of traffic without erosion issues.
Special challenges are the large amounts of loose rocks in the downclimbs, especially early on. Careful planning and communication between party members is important to keep from sending rocks onto each other.
