Comment: We did this canyon at a leisure pace. 1 of us had done it before, 3 were first timers and pleasantly surprised to find that this canyon consists of fun narrow after narrow. The weather was perfect, high 60s low 70s mostly overcast with some breeze, which really helps with the slog of approach and exit. I run cold and shorty wet suit was fine; 3 others did not wear wet suit and did fine as well. We didn't encounter any swimmer pools (able to walk through all pools). Several pools, mostly calf or waist deep. Only the 2 larger pools in the last narrow smell like death, the others were all clean-ish.

Comment: West Fork Canyon was full of pools after the recent rain/snowstorm. Wetsuits a good idea; 4/3 minimum. East Fork was running close to 50cfs, but was fine for traversing. Muddy and brown.

Comment: Time reflects an extra 7mi of river walking - went up past French and back.
Gorgeous day! Loved the warm spring at the end of Misery, and the narrows above and below the confluence are beautiful. Carried a wetsuit but found it totally unnecessary. All rappels are dry. At the very end of the canyon there are currently two or three chest-deep wades and one pool that requires swimming about two strokes to touch bottom. Unless you decide to take your lunch break IN the swimmer pothole you are likely fine without. All anchors appeared in good condition.

Comment: Started at midday so we could hike out in the cool of the evening. Definitely suffered up front with the heat but it was worth it on the exit. Better at this time of year would have been to just go early, spend midday at the Virgin (gorgeous) and hike out when it cools down. Pools in canyon were refreshing. Switched anchor location at the last rap from a big awkward boulder to a nice pinch point. Other anchors were fine except the one where someone recently fell and was rescued (trash from the IV was left at the bottom of the rap). For this we found no webbing or any anchor so we built a cairn anchor. Several drops with anchors are pretty easy to downclimb if you're so inclined. The last narrows before the river are amazing!
