Comments: I ran Monkeyface after running Vivian earlier in the morning and hit Monkeyface at the perfect timing (noon to 1PM in the technical canyon) for the Sun to be in the canyon chimneys (see pics). Flow is "moderate" and cold, but the Sun was warm.

Comment: Excellent trip down Monkeyface! Ran into a party of 3 at the parking lot and ended up combining groups at the drop in. Snow was on the north face of the mountain at the drop in as well as in parts of the canyon. Water level was not enough to present any hydraulic hazards. Anchors were all in great shape and no unique challenges encountered, other than dealing with chilly water. Prolonged sunny weather should make this canyon more pumpier than what was found!

Comment: We hit the main canyon right from noon to 1PM on this chilly but Sunny day. The mist-bows were amazing!

Comment: Great day in Monkeyface! All anchors and webbing were in good order and primary bolts were used for all rappels. Beta was followed to a T and there were no problems, everything ran smoothly. The bolt on closer to the falls on the multi-stage rappel mid-flow was a little loose, I’d rap on it again but maybe not clip my lanyard to it.

Comment: The waterflow has lost its class C edge (see pics); still quite a bit of flow! The water temp is definitely getting much colder now. And adding a chilly air day, made me glad to take plenty of neoprene including socks, gloves and a hooded top.

Comment: My special challenges included spending an hour trimming plants on the drop-in trail, and an hour talking with Brent Webster at the bottom of last rappel about rock climbing & route development (at Monkeyface and Blackstar); turning a 3 hour trip into a 5 hour trip. It may be summer but MF's water temp is still cold at 55F. I was glad to have a full-suit and a hooded rain jacket. Flow is still low class C (see pics)

Comment: The water flow was perfect at monkeyface! Enough water where you're completely covered going down the falls, but not so much where the water is pushing you down the rope. It's cold water, but with a wetsuit it's great. Bring a shell if you get cold easily. Took 2 hours to get up to the drop in, and made out way down over the next 5 hours, taking multiple 30 minutes just to sit in nature and eat, drink tea, etc.

Comment: I did not measure the water temp, but it's COLD! Don't skimp on the neoprene, and bring a hooded wetsuit top, or rain jacket with hood. Chris only had his full-body wetsuit and the water flooded into his suit down his back on the powerful waterfalls. Flow is "high", like you will get pounding in the 3 main waterfalls. All the anchor webbing and bolts are in great shape, so no worries there. After the canyon run we used the climber access to the "camping area" (above R10) and did sport rock climbing.

Comment: Water is COLD as there is snow melting around the drop-in! Our "special challenges" was to fix up several anchors where the climbers have install SMC rappel rings and one with tan webbing. Additionally, we cut up and removed the log at the top of the last rappel that was causing ropes to get stuck when pulled from the 2nd to last rappel. Lifting one of the logs, I managed to tweak back muscles; a week later the muscles are mostly good now.

Comment: The water flow was still "sporty", but down from my last trip (see pic). All the anchors are OK, but the climbing SMC aluminum rap ring on R2 really should be swapped for a steel quick-link. We went through the rabbit hole which is super fun at this flow. BTW, the algae slim is now super slippery all over the canyon!

Comment: The waterflow was amazing (see pics)! There was plenty of force in the chimneys, but easy enough to position as not to get hammered too much. Everything was going great until my pull side got stuck over the small tree on the money drop (banner photo). I did not want to ascend my rappel side directly in the waterfall, but instead ascended a climbing fixed rope on the DCL side and was able to free my pull side (special challenges). I thought all was good, until I saw that a knot had form in the rappel side and it was nearly at the anchor. I wound up cutting that old 200' rope in half and using it and backup to get down the last 2 rappels. That exercise pushed the run to over 3 hours.

Comment: A reasonably warm place in December, there are a lot of places to soak in the sunlight. Wouldn't have wanted anything much heavier than a 4/3.
