Trip report URL:
Comments: The water flow for just the short length of the gorge itself (not the entire backpack) was too high to safely cross with just 2 people (one with very limited white water experience). We brought limited gear in attempts to lighten the backpack (one harness to share, thin wetsuit, webbing, and a very short rope).
Be prepared for long and tiring days if you follow the beta from Sierra Canyons. It may make sense to make a few changes to that beta:
1. Enter in from the exit point of the gorge and explore around upstream (and ditch the wetsuit!) 2. Make it a 4 day trip so you can enjoy the many swimming holes, slides, beautiful waterfalls along the way instead of death marching an average of 10 miles a day with a heavy backpack. 3. It is not that easy to hitch hike back to Tuoloume Meadows. Consider a shuttle and leaving your car at White Wolf for added flexibility. There are 2 buses that leave that area around 9 am and 6 am, but be sure to confirm those times. 4. On the last day with the steep switchbacks, start early (we started at 530 am) to beat the heat.
