Comments: First Descent. Really fun approach and a fantastic 1st and last rappel. Knot chock may be hard to locate for r2. It is located high Ldc of watercourse, in a crack, under a sandstone block, with a small scraggly bush in top of it. 200' did not touch bottom on r4 so we extended it, Last rappel is 220' over a sharp edge, and mostly free hanging. It is reccomended to use edge protection, and change rope placement between rapps. All pulls were silky smoothe. Please do not touch any of the artifacts in the ruin site, or dam.

will definitely visit again.

Comment: Great canyon. We had a great time exploring native american ruins as well as going up on the sky island and waving at the helicopter flying by. All anchors were great, and R4 had the date marked on it! Thank you to whoever did that.

A couple of notes for wayfinding: When you peel off of the main trail in the beginning, you will initially go through a bunch of manzanita and human excrement landmines. Watch your step! Also, if you go up to the right above where you start traversing around the point before the mushroom, you will find an incredible ancient ruin in a massive hollowed-out section. Great route!

Comment: Another super fun route that stays engaging and beautiful throughout. Webbing was missing on R1 and R3, we replaced these anchors. R1 is definitely worth the hike up the drainage to get it. Last rap is always a big treat!

Comment: What a fun route! R1 was a favorite of several in our group - definitely worth the slight additional effort once you’ve come as high as R2. Fantastic views. All anchors in great shape. It was nice to have an edge protection plate on R4. Vlad biner and and leash were helpful to clip everyone in and hang ropes at R1 anchor. At R3, helped to clip myself in, then have everyone sit down DCR of the anchor, get on rope, then scoot toward anchor and pull out slack till close enough to comfortably lean back and start rappel.

Comment: Awesome canyon. Super fun & picturesque hike in, really nice rappels. Pretty insane views throughout. If taking a beginner on this canyon make sure they can do soft starts & on the last rap, I recommend putting something between the rope and the rock for any beginners to increase the angle for their device to pass smoothly over the edge. Watch for hand entrapment.

Comment: Awesome canyon. Super fun & picturesque hike in, really nice rappels. Pretty insane views throughout. We replaced anchors at R2 and R3 due to sun damage. R2 is full sun almost all day long so please be cognizant of sun damage here & pack webbing to replace if needed. If taking a beginner on this canyon make sure they can do soft starts & on the last rap, I recommend putting something between the rope and the rock for any beginners to increase the angle for their device to pass smoothly over the edge. Watch for hand entrapment.

Comment: Such a beautiful and fun route! Took my friend on her very first canyon and she loved it! We started at R2. Spent time teaching and enjoying the day. All anchors are minty fresh! One of the best in Sedona!

Comment: Special challenges are for missing anchors and icy conditions. We replaced a few anchors. 5.5 hours car to car.

Comment: We visited mushroom rock and did r2 down. We were moving at a casual pace as we both had prior injuries. I still think this is one of the best adventures in Boynton, even if you cut it short.

The anchor for the big rappel was close to the edge and looked good. We blocked it and trailed the pull cord to avoid trees below. Super smoothe and no spins with a sqwurel rappeling device.

Comment: Time includes Mushroom Drops and Chopper Drop.

This is a really awesome route and one of my favorites in the Boynton area. The approach is fun, scenic and engaging. The first rap is well worth the extra work to get up to it. The final rap is absolutely wonderful.

We went straight over to Chopper Drop to fill out our day.

Comment: Mushrooms Drops Canyon was great choice! We did end up killing a decent amount of time bushwacking in the beginning as the GPX tracks are slightly off —but looking back, I should of caught the unnecessary jaunt we took into the brush. Just stay along the wave shaped wall to the point where you gain the next level via the step-like rocks. The canyon had some great views, the mushroom rock was fun to photograph. The first rappel was webbing off a tree, all in good shape. The last rappel was super enjoyable. I did tie another overhand in the webbing and added a quick link to better suit the placement of the fiddle allowing it be in free space. Whoever goes next should eliminate the extra overhand and take the extra quick link (I couldn’t get it undone). Great canyon!

Comment: An amazing canyon in unique conditions!

It was raining off/on and Boynton trail was flowing everywhere and slushy with the recent snow. Multiple river crossings required! Where we turned off into the brush, all the bushes and much of the ground were covered in snow. As we went higher, we encountered more and more snow making some of the slick rock upclimbs tricky. My partner had micro spikes, I had forgotten mine, which made some spots quite a challenge!

We opted to start at R2 as the drainage up to R1 was very snowy and the coconino layer above was undoubtedly even snowier!

Keep in mind, R2 is now a pair of bolts in the water course where they should be, located nowhere near the original knot chock anchor. KML not yet updated to reflect this!

All the rappels were flowing quite a bit and were fantastic!! They were all drenchers! The final 200' was incredible in the flow! So much fun!! It even starting hailing on us on the way down!

We didnt wear wetsuits and our rain jackets/layers kept us mostly dry and warm up top but our legs/feet were very cold!

Id do it again without a wetsuit but with microspikes, rain pants, long johns, and neoprene booties. Also neoprene gloves!!

    4.5hrs

    Definitely a memorable experience!!

Comment: Unable to locate last part of approach to R1. Started canyon at R2. We did not trust the fragile appearance of the rock holding the knot chock and sling at R2. We added equalized webbing from manzanita bush. Recommend bolts replace R2 anchor. R4 is amazing.

Comment: Time is for Mushroom Drops, visiting Sedona Subway, and Chopper Drop. We took our time and didn't rush, moving at a moderate pace with lots of stops.

Awesome trip! The first rappel and the views are definitely worth the trip up the gully to access them! Follow GPS track and topo lines and you won't get lost!!

    R2 knot chock is solid.

R4 webbing is indeed extended. We dropped 220' and had probably 20' on the ground. Fantastic rappel!!
