Comments: Today was substantially different from when the route was established. Utah's tremendous snowpack from the winter caused substantial avalanche damage to the overall environment, and the snowpack was still in place throughout the entire canyon. Anchors were torn up, we replaced anchors 1,3, and 5. Our team down climbed optimal rappel 4, and rappel 7 did not exist at the time so we walked around the complex snow problem. The flow was as high as this canyon will ever see, and the snow caves should be cautiously managed. This was as much as a canyoning excursion as it was an exercise in crevasse crossing.

Comment: Awesome day, gorgeous canyon! Make sure you’re competent with building basic anchors. Rappels 1-3 come fast. Rap 4 was bypassed and between 3-6 there was tons of avalanche debris to mitigate so slow moving. 5 dead mountain goats in canyon with other random decaying parts in the water - seems like a lot of animals try and access the water and fall to their deaths. Water flow was super beginner friendly this time of year. We were wearing 5mm wetsuits and got a little hot, but we’re thankful for them. Air temps when we started were in the 50s. Towards the end of the canyon the sun sets behind the mountains so the canyon gets darker faster and windy so they were nice to have.

Comment: First Descent / Exploration. Had to set all anchors/webbing. Fantastic day in low 60's. Rain Jacket and swim trunks.
