Comment: 2.5 hours car to car using the Sedona shuttle, starting at soldiers pass th. We did the route as 2 rappels and finished with downclimbing on the left side. Did the second rappel as a 120 from the bolts.

Comment: Time includes visiting Solider's Cave and hitting the Subway Route afterwards at a leisurely pace.
I parked at Brin's Mesa and hiked in from there. There is no parking aloud at Solider's Pass TH (without special permit) nor can you park on the streets anywhere near it. There is a free shuttle service that goes from one of the offsite free parking lots over to Soldier's Pass. Last pickup from Solider's Pass is 5:08pm, I was informed. Approaching via Ciabola Pass to Jordan Trail from Brin's Mesa parking area adds a couple miles of hiking but ultimately seems to be the easiest option. Ciabola Pass, Jordan Trail, and Solider's Pass are all very pretty and easy hikes with lots to see on the way! On Solider's Pass, I followed the hiking trail up to Solider's Cave which was super cool, very interesting, but unfortunately corroded with people. I moved up through the cave and climbed out the top. A very quick hike and I was over to the drop in for the descent. At this point it started to rain which was nice, this continued off and on for the rest of the day. No trickle down the walls while I was there, however. I did 2 rappels, combining R2 & R3. I easily downclimbed R4 DCR. None of the raps were that exciting and were pretty straight forward. The views were okay and there were no real notable features of interest on the technical section. It was over quick and I was soon back out on Soldier's Pass Trail. From here I hiked up to do the Subway route, then afterwards I hiked the 4x4 trail parallel to the hiking trail, (which is probably quicker and more direct) back to Devil's Kitchen then continued on back Brin's Mesa Parking. Overall, New Day was an okay route that required relatively little effort to get to (just lots of easy hiking trails) I'd say it is only worth doing if you already want to hike Solider's Pass anyway, and you add in other points of interest along the way like Solider's Cave (definitely worth checking out) and the Subway Route, or if you have someone brand new to rappelling you want to teach.

Comment: I’ve run this canyon 3 times in the last month. Added backup anchor to R1, and replaced webbing on LDC side of bolted anchor on R2. Other anchors looked good. Hiked from Brin’s Mesa lot each time. 4.5 hour time includes running subway after completing new day and a swift approach/exit hike. Good views and easy access.

Comment: A great mini-adventure.
Started at soldiers pass th at 7:50 am and were the 10th car in line for the 14 space parking lot which opens at 8.
R2 anchors are close to edge, but the courtesy bolt makes the dismount smoothe and comfortable. Reccomend the soldiers pass loop through the cave for maximum value.

Comment: Highly reccomended with runoff/ flow. Not reccomended for beginners in these conditions though due to how close the bolts are to the edge on the bolted rappel.
broke down the deadman anchor at the last drop that was in the watercourse as it seemed dangerous, and there is a single loop off a small sapling LDC that can be used to rapp or handline. We downclimed the last drop from this anchor.

Comment: Second time through this canyon. Love the easy approach through the cave and the rappels have great views. There was a ranger posted at the cave, not sure why he was there. Anyway he wasn't sure if canyoneering was allowed. How funny he's the ranger, right. Anyway we continued on with out any harassment.

Comment: I'll repeat the advice from the earlier post, parking sucks. I would suggest dropping the team at the trail head then park the car at a local business and get Ubered back.
Definitely approach from Soldiers Arch Cave, it really adds value to the trip. We also did New Day as well only adds a couple hours to the trip. All anchors were in good condition and there were no issues to report.

Comment: Don't bother with the Soldier's Pass trailhead, its small, crowded and gated. The automated gate closes at 6pm (guessing it will let you out, but...). The surrounding neighborhood is full of NO PARKING signs, I'm guessing they are all tired of people parking along the street. Instead, use the Brins Mesa trailhead at the end of Johnson rd: much larger, no gates, about the same overall hike distance, and if only doing this canyon, its a direct hike to the top. Plus, exiting is short if you go up through soldier's arch (which is worth it!).
The trip: time is car-car for taking a newby (had rapped before but nothing near this big) with some time spent at the top reviewing skills and calming nerves (its a great view). Approach: From Brins TH, hike in until the canyon starts on the left. Drop in here or continue until an obvious trail cuts left to a prominent rock sticking up. "Trails" can be followed down from here trending left to the canyon wall. R1 was done as a single with a 200' rope for newby (blocked near the midpoint, more than enough to pull, is R1 really a 120'?), I pulled it at the large ledge to avoid stuck rope and used the tree DCL to drop the second ~half. Both were rigged, rigging looked good. R2 is 3 nice bolts, 2 in a Y webbing rig on the sloping lip, one above them for safety tethering. Others are as listed (warning on R3 is for loose stuff on the ledge to the tree). Exiting down the wash, it turns south to eventually meet the Soldier's pass trail headed back towards the TH. There is a worn path right and up when the wash starts turning left, this goes up a short hill to meet the trail to Soldier's Arch (would have avoided for crypto soils, except this is obvious and worn, and cuts out 1/2mi+ hiking the wrong direction). Follow the trail up to the arch, all the way into the arch. Short climb far right to get on the ledge inside the arch, with a slopey climb out on the other end taking you back to the top of the mesa. Follow "trails" out, they go back to the prominent rock and main Brins Mesa trail. | |||||||

Comment: Great route for beginners! We had to take the cave approach as it adds something cool to see. Fun day!

Comment: done in 3 rappels, skipped last to down climb ldc.
fun easy run with a large groups a a few new to descending. took cibola pass approach this time. still entered through arch for the more fun approach. exited on same trail back to Jordan. this way is a about a mile longer each way (vs. the tiny soldiers pass lot)but flat, scenic, and shaded. a few team members got hot on the return, which made the shady store a nice alternative during the hot day. used third bolt at last rapp (top bolt) for personal anchor. left the quicklink that someone has placed there recently, although I don't see its purpose.. This was a great route for beginners as it can be hiked off of at any point, and has some tricky starts on the few rappels.

Comment: done 6 seperate times this year, 3 solo trips,
and 3 trips with beginners. this is a good canyon for beginners, the only deterrent is that the first rappel is the largest and @ 100 fr probably not ideal for a first timer. All anchors in good condition. Last anchors rdc 25ft newly added Feb 2020. Route can be done with a single 100 and pull. This rappell can be downclimbed ldc if there is no flow. last rapp placed during a solo run in February when the runoff was high and the flow was good. Would highly reccomend approaching from soldiers pass trail and climbing through the arch, then walking a short distance east on the ridge to the 1st rappel. The approach through the arches cave will cut-down the time and increase the adventure.

Comment: Great easy canyon with beautiful views. All anchors were impeccable and looked as though they had been replaced quite recently. Minimal bushwhack from Brins Mesa trail to the first rap, exit is a wash that is currently not overgrown at all and is basically a trail.

Comment: 7 hours for both New Day and Sedona Subway. A fair amount of hiking but definitely best to do both canyons together. Great views. All of the anchors were present and in good shape. Some slightly tricky starts, but nothing crazy. Subway was cool, to bad the canyon isn't longer. Parking is VERY limited, and these trails are BUSY, we walked an extra .5 miles or more from our car parked in the nearest legal spot we could find to the trailhead.
