Comment: Started hiking from Lava Point at 7am. Approached Right Fork via Hammerhead.

Hammerhead is pretty neat in it’s own right! A beautiful cracky canyon with a very nice entry rappel! We replaced and rebuilt multiple anchors. Took us 5hrs to reach confluence with Right Fork at a very leisurely pace.

Right Fork was incredible. Lots of semi-keeper potholes and 1 actual keeper we needed a hook/aider to defeat. Tons of water exposure. 4/3 wetsuit was comfortable for me. The sculpting was top notch!!

There is one anchor that is on a small natural arch about 20ft off the deck set way back for one of the larger rappels and no other great options nearby. I was able to stem up the walls and just barely reach it. Definitely back it up with meat on a butterfly…

After taking our time through the canyon, we arrived at the Great Alcove at 6pm, just enough time to set up camp before dark!

The next day the hike out was very long but beautiful. We took our time and spent the day enjoying it. Definitely similar to Subway’s exit but far longer and quite a bit more interesting! ;)

Comment: Took the main route in, which is more backpack than canyon. Group needs to be dialed on route-finding; the going is often slower than expected. Gorgeous scenery. At the Giant's Staircase, climb down into the large crack on the right (easier than it looks). At the bottom where it gets steeper, cut left/up across the slickrock to find a user trail leading down to the valley floor. Replaced missing anchor for the rappel at Double Falls.
